So in short, Big Fish is about an old man who tells fantasy stories to his son, like a whole bunch of surreal things they've done in the past (as in fairy tales). The son has grown up and he's an adult, so he doesn't believe in these anymore. They explain that the old man found their alliance ring from the mouth of a giant fish, but there might be a multiple meaning to the title as in it could be refering to the "Big fish little pond effect"; The guy is a mythomaniac and consider himself as a hero in their youth.

I couldn't really understand the meaning of this as a kid but now I just cry everytime I watch it
