Deepnest entrance:
There are two ways to enter deepnest in a Typical playthrough:
The fungal wastes floor drop, and the mantis lords gate.
The gate immediately presents a corpse pile of scary looking bugs, and a few of the design choices deepnest makes regarding spikes, geo, basically setting the theme for the area- placing the player on guard
The fungal wastes entrance takes the player by surprise, drops them into a creepy crawly pit, and puts the player on guard

Both these entrances make it clear what you’re getting into.
Both these entrances hand you cornifers laughably unfinished map with his dialogue.
Both these places present the player with a choice to exit, or press on into deepnest while they have been put on guard

This is immensely important, because this state of caution (Not Fear) is what defines the core of the deepnest exploration loop, and presents every design choice in deepnest within a new light.

If you choose to press on into deepnest, after all the above warnings and clues, the game will plunge you fully into the area, dropping you into the hot spring (after teasing Nosk)

Then there’s the whole rest of deepnest. Think about all of these items, in the context of “the player is on their guard, they know they’re in danger, how do we keep them engaged, and keep this massive area fresh”

Design elements employed in the deepnest exploration loop:
-Enemies that resurrect
-ever changing background room art. Deepnest is secretly composed of nothing but sub areas, but you can’t tell because every 2 rooms has a new little tweak or theme attached to it.
(See the sets of rooms leading up to and including tram/village/galien/Nosk/garpede/basin/queens)
-Massive size coupled with high reward density. Deepnest exploration is taxing but TC made it rewarding, and then they let you do a shitload of it. Progress in an environment so hostile is thus so much more concrete.
