Imo, even though obviously having it blurry is not ideal, there’s still some stuff that makes it clear ai is used, and for me those artifacts can be super distracting. So even though blurry stuff still isn’t ideal, the end result isn’t exactly ideal either imo

There’s kinda a problem already of ai being used to “enhance” stuff like animation that ultimately just kinda jacks up smear frames or frame rate, and this is kinda a similar thing imo. It still messes with the image/art itself, and I’d argue that some details are actually obscured by how “wispy” ai can even if it is theoretically “crisper”.

Messes with line weight and stuff, so I think the end product is still unideal and further from and if anything can obscure what the original might’ve looked like.

The “upscale” also seems to really mess with coloration and adds colors/hues that definitely weren’t there before; to me, using upscaling and presenting it as a “restoration” of a piece when it warps so many details would be kinda dishonest.

I think for the simple purpose of not having a blurry profile picture for discord it is (in my opinion) a respectable choice since there is literally no existing higher quality version of the image and its such a miniscule use- but I do agree it pales in comparison to anything that could ever be officially done (say an artist recreating the image from scratch)

Even though the blurriness of the original is obviously frustrating, I still find it more appealing to look at and you can have a greater idea of what the “untouched” version is supposed to be then if you looked at the the “upscaled” version.
