Not dying in Hollow Knight isn't that hard anyways, the knowledge you have from the first playthrough is enough to make you grab a lot of upgrades before bosses and such because you know where they are, and what is important. It seems almost easier if you play super slowly and safely

yeah this is why steel soul is fair, it doesn't throw anything at you out of nowhere. There are plenty of things in HK that can just lock you in the room with you and kill you well before you're ready if you don't know where you're going

Same, honestly. I am picturing if Steel Soul would have just made every boss their Ascended version (I know that came later).
Steel Soul would have become my default way to play Hollow Knight after my first playthrough.

Yeah I'm fine with that too actually I don't mind redoing a second playthrough it's fun. But SteelSoul is like, more of an annoyance that a real interest, if you want to try something for fun and end up dying it's just awkward and doesn't feel very rewarding by not doing so

For example I like to try unusual charm builds on bosses and they're often weak so it's easy to die

If I launch a SteelSoul mode for a new playthrough I'd be locked behind the "optimal" way to play

Second playthrough was that for me. I am oblivious as fuck so I beat the game with 85ish% completion on my first playthrough.
