Ok kinda a non-sequitur here but does anyone else think that Eternatus is just a really weird pokemon design? Like I’m not saying it’s bad, I’d actually say it looks quite cool.

Like, people will often criticize whatever new pokemon designs pop up as “not feeling like pokemon” but eventually you get used to them and they ultimately end up “feeling like pokemon” anyhow, even for the more “out-there” designs like the ultra-beasts; but Eternatus just still kinda sticks out to me even a few years down the line. Again, not a bad design in-of-itself, but it’s like the only pokemon where you can say that.

Maybe that’s what they were going for, a purposefully weird and alien-looking design, but nonetheless it just feels odd. Y’get what I’m tryna say?

When he says “we’re gonna play that btw” it kinda speaks to tbh I kinda feel like a lot of people are only really promoting or talking about this game or whatever out of spite; like, even as a person who has passively enjoyed pokemon I honestly understand and agree with criticisms of not just certain pokemon games and practices and arguably the core formula of any pokemon, but from what I can see most of the discussion surrounding pal world I see is just kinda how it’s not pokemon and therefore good, I haven’t actually seen much discussion of the actual game mechanics to the point that I don’t know what the actual gameplay loop is lmao.

That is to say, it feels like a lot of the public support for pal world or whatever is just sourced from a spite towards pokemon or its practices or whatever. And honestly I get that, who doesn’t wanna piss off big companies or franchises from time to time? But when you’re fueled by spite alone it kinda leads to unhealthy behaviors and how you view the world in stuff; when it comes to stuff like games, criticism and critique should come from a constructive lens if you wanna have any actual desire to improve or innovate.
Like, I think there could be an interesting discussion about how to genuinely improve the core formula of pokemon, and whatever game that could come from that could be legitimately fascinating to see. But when it comes to pal world, the most notable differences, or premises, or whatever it has is just le pokermans with guns and other shock value. It doesn’t seem like there’s any actual innovation or genuine creative passion going, doubly so if the devs are big fans of ai art or whatever lmao.
