like, if you side with the evil cultists you lose bestgirl (Karlach) and Wyll but you get a really compelling and entirely missable full companion named Minthara who you usually kill if you do a fairly normal run

They're presented the same way as main objectives actually

and companions also have their own objective to do, they don't just follow you for no reason

(someone discovered you can technically get minthara and keep the others by basically just completely ignoring the Druids Grove quest but thats a pretty big part of act 1 to skip)
