the longer a game has been development with an engine, the more dependant the game tends to be on said engine. Especially since TC was probably never planning on porting from unity to another engine, it would likely involve not only learning a whole new engine and spending hundreds of hours modifying the code so that the systems which have an alternative in the new engine can be ported over, but also completely reworking thousands and thousands of lines of code which rely on systems that are incompatible between the two engines. For instance, all of hollow knight's UI probably uses the unity UI system, which is completely incompatible with Unreal and Godot UI systems. that's likely a small component that wouldn't take much time to port over, but there's probably hundreds of similar issues, plus dozens of larger incompatibilities like that which would be far more time consuming
