a character action game is a mix of a hack n slash and a fighting game
while its got lots of the stuff of hack n slashes(wikipedia is TECHNICALLY right in describing it as a hack n slash due to its main meaning, but game genres are a made up title that twist and warp quickly and are subjective, so the literal meaning of it doesnt really matter anymore when its generally agreed by the fandom to be different from the other genre) it plays like a fighting game
where you dont just mash attack unlike in a hack n slash(of course you can mash attacks in dmc games but the same applies to bad players in fighting games mashing the same attacks)
you know what every attack does and its purpose, its weaknesses and if you should use them on that situation or not, théy have different properties each that make themselves unique, and with the ABSURDLY extensive moveset you have, especially on five, it makes for a really rich gameplay.
