If I take Hollow Knight for example, you can easily have an idea of the global atmosphere, how it looks, how it sounds, but you don't know how to play really, or any systems such as charms etc.. unless you actually try it out.
It can be misleading, 'cause HK may be appealing for some, those same people might not like it just because of the fact it's a metroidvania and you have to backtrack a lot (for example) or maybe the overall difficulty isn't really adapted for them. Which is really hard to know when watching a footage and no experience of the gameplay itself

I think Silksong trailers are actually near perfect to me, they don't have to go in details, it's just appealing enough. The game benefits greatly of their environment and how "clean" it is on the screen (few UI elements etc) so like, it's not so bad to use some footages. Even newcomers of the series can understand what is happening on the screen, cool effects, cool sounds, cuts are in rythm with the music etc.. It doesn't have to go in depth into the mechanics imo
