Lmao yeah, Skyrim suffers a lot of this and even New Vegas (tho afaik New Vegas is a lot less hand holdy in a lot of areas except a few)

My favorite instance of this despite not really being difficult is Deus Ex HR's sidequests where you had to collect evidence of a murder in an apartment

your copilot just tells you to go around and look for evidence, and youre left alone looking at every item and interacting with them. Its still handholdy but at least the game doesnt highlight the object in your face telling you what to check exactly on the get go
