The bot problem has gotten a lot better in the recent years + there's community servers which are usually bot-free

though casual is often perfectly playable too, depending on region

so no, the bot crisis is definitely not a reason not to play the game

as for the community, it just really loves shitposting so you need to prepare for some cringe from time to time (you should probably disable sprays though) (and don't ever pick up objectors). Otherwise, the community is pretty good, better than most shooters nowadays

on the inverse, if you don't pick up 5 scrolls, your damage gets halved
this is an issue because of cursed chests, which lock scrolls behind literally the worst risk/reward mechanic I've ever seen in any video game ever
the risk is you instantly die, and the reward is you don't lose out on massive amounts of damage
the elite system is independently bad because sometimes the special arenas can stunlock you into an instant death
also I forgot to mention this but affix damage buffs are really fucking dumb, double damage on poisoned enemies???? what the hell are you thinking??? that's like even worse than strength in hk

I genuinely don’t get annoyed by the elite system, I think it’s an interesting concept that makes elites feel more elite (I’m also hard to irritate).

You’re basically always going to be picking up scrolls, so not sure why that’s an issue. Even with bad luck, I’ve found myself having fine damage.

When it comes to cursed chests, I’d say just play careful and be mindful if taking a curse is a good idea depending on what enemies are left on a stage, making them less insanely risky (some may be much easier to deal with then others).

You can decrease the risk of cursed chests by playing intentionally though, noting which enemies you’ll be fighting while cursed and playing around them carefully. That’s the thing about dead cells, not putting yourself in unfavorable situations. Frankly, I don’t mind the thrill of it, especially since it is so short. I’ve actually never heard of or experience an instant death stunlock. Also it’s 80% for poisoned not 100%, I guess a whole lot of math went into choosing that number and other affix buffs. I hope this response is decent.
