i understand, but still; theres a huge difference between a game like Silksong, where we know more about the individuals creating it, and they have shown us quite a big deal of what's to expect in the game, and HALF LIFE 3... a "game" that had zero footage or trailers

applications connect to discord because the application allows it, discord should never force that to happen

I mean, you have to enable the option to allow discord to show game status but I think some games do it automatically if that option is on, and you don't need to enable it in discord

hmm lemme try to explain this better. whatever you're using to run a game (or any app) has to communicate with discord to give it data and show as a status. for example, I use a audio listening program called foobar2000. with the discord rich presence addon, my foobar application can send data to discord, which tells people what im listening to. otherwise, you could use discord to manually pick that application and say "tell people im playing foobar" but thats all it'll do.
