well hollow knight has excellently tight movement controls, and despite looking quite simple, there's a lot of depth to precision in HK movement. especially vertical movement is super cool and satisfying. the great combat makes it really good too. The areas of the game feel good to traverse through, there's a lot of cool skips and sequence breaks, and an immense variety in categories to choose from

no, minecraft rsg runs have a lot of technique to mitigate rng, but yes, it is largely luck based and the appeal is partially from just that. at high levels it does seem pretty painful to reset 1000s of seeds for a viable run only to lose to bad blaze rng or smth

The newest pre-release of Minecraft apparently removes a lot of RNG as loot drops can be consistent from just the seed.

like i can see the appeal in it, might be an off comparison but something like RNG being added in certain strategy games is to avoid the game from being "solved" so to say

basically at a certain point you just fucking do the same actions over and over in different scenario and it becomes very structured, RNG at least (like or not) makes it so you cant always count on the same strat over and over because you can still run on a risk that your plan can fucking go wrong and you will eventually need to adapt on the fly to mitigate the risks

That's what I like about hollow knight being equal parts movement and combat. The movement you can learn, but what makes you a good player in combat is learning intricacies of the fights and how you should react to mitigate the rng. There are some bs aspects, like uumuu, which is literally pure rng and not fun, but overall it strikes a wonderful balance!

A big part of hk nmg running being fun is specifically making movement tight. Like I wasn't enjoying nmg half as much as I do know until I started trying to jump as low as possible to land sooner and jump again, and stuff like that
