Close your game, and try again.
Make sure that you leave the menu by pressing the "Back" button, and not by hitting "B" on controller nor by press ESC.

I was playing hollow knight today completely fine on a new playthrough

only benchwarp, debug, custom knight and dependecies enabled

Another question, I started a multiplayer randomizer itemsync with my friend. But now we're trying to log back in we have no idea how to reconnect to the itemsync server since we don't see that option anywhere and we'd prefer not to start a new game.

Well we were using both HKMP and itemsync since we wanted to see each other. And we used these settings :
on the itemsync page to start which also enabled the hkmp stuff automatically

The whole IP and room name stuff is just for item sync. It doesn't set up HKMP

No, they should work perfectly fine together seeing as HKMP doesn't have any built in item/progression sync

Custom Knight allows you to reskin as Pale King (Lime made a PK skin)

I believe if you use some beta version of the xbox game pass app then you can, otherwise it's very complicated. Also gamepass only has 1.4.3.2, so you'll need mod installer 1/2 instead of scarab

I'm trying to use ModInstaller 2 with 1.4.3.2, but I'm encountering an issue where launching Hollow Knight doesn't actually open the game. Steam thinks it's running, but clicking "stop" doesn't change anything; Steam still thinks it's running.

1. Go to saves location:

He says he has a speedrun mod, created by the user Underlein, that basically ads quality of life stuff and some other patched glitches and skips. That happens if you run out of VRAM on the fight. It happens a lot with mods in 1432 (especially ones that do a lot of cosmetic stuff, like CustomKnight); it doesn't happen much to people in 1578

Restarting the game resets the VRAM it's taking. That alone can be enough to fix it for some people. You can also disable the higher resource intensive mods like Custom Knight.
