You can manually install mods with scarab. Click the "open mod folder" and paste the DLL file for whatever you've downloaded into it.

You can head to your mods folder and delete them manually if that's what you mean?

Hollow Knight data / managed / mods is the file path, but you will still have a modded install of hollow knight, not a clean one

In this case, the .zip file contains the exe that you need to run to launch scarab

If you want to get rid of the api, and mods, go to your game files, delete the mods folder, and then go up to managed and delete the assembly-csharp files, or verify your game integrity and delete the mods folder

I'm trying to install the randomizer mod right now but the latest version is in github and that version doesn't have a .dll file i can put into my mods folder. The tutorial for downloading it is wayyy outdated back in 2019 and doesn't have the same randomizer as i do.

They will be fine. If you want to back them up anyways, copy user1.dat, 2, 3 and 4 from your save files path to another location (the number corresponds to the save slot)

Update on my friends situation:

He somehow recovered his save and by trial and error, we found that it was caused by exiting the Hollow point mod with more than one gun mod charm on at the same time (which disables firing and subsequently swapping off the gun, which is done by the heal button). Solution 2 worked after fixing the problem by changing the charm list to one that allowed the use of the gun.

Hello, I have a Mac and downloaded the correct mod installer. I had trouble opening it at first but then bypassed the issue by opening the MacOS folder and clicking on the Unix Executable File labeled Modinstaller. It then opened the app no problem. From there the path was established under the resources folder in hollow knight’s local files. I then proceeded to install the infinite charms mod using the app and tried opening hollow knight through steam to see if it worked. I didn’t get very far however as a prompt comes up shortly after clicking play that says “hollow knight quit unexpectedly” and then feeds me a crash report I have no idea how to read or interpret. I then decided to delete the mod installer and all of the files within hollow knight’s local files that might have been created or somehow changed by the app. This amounted to only being the infinite charms mod file and the mod folder itself. After that I tried opening hollow knight again and again and the same crash report continues to appear. I can assure you hollow knight was working perfectly fine before I started messing about with mods and I am quite worried I will lose my saves and/or not be able to play hollow knight on my Mac again unless I reinstall. I will gladly provide more info and pictures if someone is willing to help. Thanks!

Hello, sorry in advance for my incompetence
I am currently trying to get a custom skin
My current predicament is that:

I am on a mac
This is my first time doing anything mod related, so I am rather clueless
I successfully installed the ModInstaller and chose the mods I wanted, both installing and enabling them
I down-patched from 1.5 to 1.4.3.2 and somehow miraculously got the game up and running with an item randomizer (although I probably messed up in someway)
My biggest mistake was getting a Mac, because I wouldn't be having this issue if I had Windows. Any and all help is appreciated, I just need it really dumbed down.

One thing I think is different on mac is that when browsing to the skins folder, you will (at some point) need to click a .app file and look inside there. Don't have a mac, so I don't know the exact steps for that.

Get the "Custom Knight" mod
Run the game once then close it
Download the skin you want, the pin on custom knight has two google drives full
Go to your game files. Go to your steam library > right click HK > properties > local files > browse
Right click the "hollow_knight" application in the folder that opens, and select "Show package contents"
Go down the following path: \Hollow Knight\hollow_knight.app/Contents\Resources\Data\Managed\Mods\Custom Knight (Note: on mac there's two managed folders, make sure you're in the right one)
Place the downloaded skin into the Custom Knight folder **Make sure that the skin folder is unzipped, and that it's just the skin pngs inside a single folder placed inside the custom knight folder, like: \Mods\Custom Knight\[Folder]\[Skin PNGs]\
Launch the game and open the pause menu and select your skin from the top left

I'm doing the Randomiser 3 mod (Literally everything randomised cuz why tf not), but so far literally all my items, barring once (Defender's crest), have just been 1 geo. It feels like the kind of failsafe that happens when it doesn't load anything, but it might just be the junkyard chests or something. Is something wrong or is it just really likely to get 1 geo with the randomiser?

1.Install the mod
2. load the save you want to edit one time then close the game
3. navigate to your save files
4. look for the User#.json file (Make sure it's the .json one, if it's the .dat file it's just your save and you can't edit it) , open it (Open it with notepad if prompted)
5. use Ctrl + F to search for specific words
6. Edit the text, be sure to keep it mostly the same, just changing number values or "true" to "false" and make sure not to delete anything else, such as the semi-colon ;
7. Save and close the file, and test it in-game
