And here's the exact path you'll need from there (and all important path info you need)

Mac OS:
Save Files: ||~/Library/Application Support/unity.Team Cherry.Hollow Knight/||
Game Files: ||~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Hollow Knight/hollow_knight.app/||
Mod Files: ||Right-click hollow_knight.app, and select "show contents", then navigate to: contents ᐅ resources ᐅ data ᐅ managed ᐅ mods
Please double check that you followed correctly. The Unix versions of the game have multiple folders with the same/similar names, and it's easy to go to the wrong folder||

I'm afraid it's a bit late for me so I'm not going to help much at this point, but the most common issue can be solved by:

Move mod installer to your desktop
Right click it and press "run as administrator"

You will also need to read through the first pinned message

After using and installing mod installer and the mods going to the correct file location with no problems, when the game is actually loaded none of the mods are available. ?pins Well I'm assuming then that you just want instructions for the entire process of installing mods, so I'll just give you those. The first thing you're gonna want to do is to downpatch your game version to 1.4.3.2 as mods are incompatible with 1.5 as of right now, there's a guide on downpatching in the first pinned message. After that download the installer, it's in the pins or you can type "?i" here, also make sure to move the mod installer out of downloads and preferably to your desktop. Then launch the installer and search for CustomKnight, it should automatically install all the dependency mods. After that check near the bottom of the pins, there's a pin with a list of custom knight sprite sheets and a video tutorial for how to put those skin packs into your game. And yes there is a multiplayer mod
