Disabling the ModdingApi loading mods is already a big problem, at least to me, and since CustomKnight is such a common mod, that makes it worse
the .DS_Store thing is definitely a mac being weird thing
sometimes when i upload folders to google drive it also uploads a file named like that
I got the .DS_Store file on windows

Hey, Someone. A person earlier was on mac, which I'm not familiar with and can't test things on, and had the same problem with CustomKnight. There is no _MACOSX file and deleting the ._Customknight.dll didn't do anything for em @jade mural

Uh, could someone send me a link to the modding API? ModInstaller2 is telling me it's already installed, but it's very clearly not, so I want to manually install it

I just did a full wipe of my installation, redownloaded the entire game, and opened up modinstaller
The first thing it told me was that moddingAPI was outdated

When you say this, do you mean that the mod names aren't showing up in the top left?
I checked to see if the API got installed to there, but that entire folder still isn't there

And there's no loading bar on startup

@real jacinth , today I learned that a recent Custom Knight update seems to have been causing this problem where the "Mods" page in the main menu option menu is there but completely blank and the game acts vanilla. Someone 𓌬 looked into it and found that it could be fixed by deleting a duplicate customknight.dll that started with "._". We had a long conversation about it earlier, that started around here
Cool. But this person said they just tried that and nothing changed
So obviously it's something different
Was mostly letting you know cause it's been messing with a lot of people
Since they also said they installed the game multiple times and didn't change installer directory

I just deleted the modinstaller folder in appdata, opened up ModInstaller 1, then set the directory to the correct one

Are you sure it's the correct one? Did you check the files at that location? And is this a second game install you're launching in addition to a vanilla one?

I only have one installation, on my F: drive
Due to a steam bug that misplaced my installed games index, I had for a brief time had one installation under F: and one under E:
I then deleted the one under E: after the mod installers were giving me trouble with it, only to find that the one in F: was also reverted to vanilla
I'm currently reinstalling hollow knight again
When that's done, I'll update you, and provide screenshots of my hollow knight directory, mods folder, and saves folder

I believe there's a glasssoul.dll in the pins, not sure if that's exactly what you want, that or I think you can save edit/use debug mod to change your hp to one mask
hello, how do i get my game to delete all the files that are not in the base game, kind of a purge of the "dirt" present in my game files
If you're on steam, I think verifying the integrity of game files will do that
i already did that but it do nothing
well the only way is to delete the "Hollow Knight" folder in "Common", and reinstall, but that seems like a waste of time.
And you have to clear all your non save files in the locallow file too

well then you can but its not really worth the trouble because you'd need to configure your mods again when you want them again
i use this world because there are just a few files remaining after i delete all the modded content in my game ,but yes ,it's not "dirt"
Using Steam's "Verify Integrity" will make you game act as Vanilla. It will revert the only file that is actually changed from the game to make mods work (which is the Assembly-CSharp file, that the ModdingAPI replaces).
When you install mods, there are .dll files added to a \Mods folder, and Readme files added to one of the root \Hollow Knight folder.
When you run mods, each mod also adds a global.settings file to the folder that your Saves are stored in. Some mods have additional txt/json files for other settings or features. Finally, some mods permanently alter Save Files, and the only way to revert those changes is to use a method of editing the save file.

As stated, there's not really any good reason to purge all of the mod-related files normally. If you want vanilla, just use Verify Integrity.
But yeah the "Verify integrity" option checks which files have changed, or deleted not added

There are. Assembly-CSharp-first pass.dll is modded. That means that Assembly-CSharp.dll is probably also modded.
When I set and deploy a bench using benchwarp, rarely a bench comes up, but most of the time no bench appears, and when I warp, I just start lying on the ground

I don't think so, I don't think benchwarp is meant to actually create a bench, just a spawn point. That's probably beyond the capabilities, and the point, of the mod.

It is unusual for somebody to have two extra folders instead of one, though
Make sure your other skin is the same (but with different folder names, obviously)

Your bench has just been reset for some reason. First try to bench somewhere and make sure it saves your bench properly.
Then you can save edit to put yourself on the correct bench

you got help with this? some mods when I try to download them come up with this unhandled exception error, and then after i closed the installer, opening it again would give me an error, if i continue its just a blank screen with "manual" in the top left corner, deleting it and redownloading did nothing

This is not the file path that you were given before. It looked like the custom Knight you have downloaded has extra files with it

Take the file called "Lapis Lightning by Biscuit" and move it to the location in the example given before.

So it will be:

theres nothing under managed
Just make those folders yourself, then.
Because you need to put the files in the correct place
so i should make a folder under contents called Managed?
The mod installer makes these for Windows, but on Mac it doesn't always do so

also, when i open hollow knight theres no text on the top left to show that custom knight is there

Cuz from teh looks of it they have a custom knight in both content/resources/data/managed/mods and contents/managed/mods

Go to steam -> right click hollow knight -> click on properties-> click on local files -> click on verify integrity
And then open modinstaller and download the modding API
Then open game and screenshot main menu

im pretty sure it installed modding api automatically because i got customknight
it said 1 file failed to validate and will be reaquired
So now open Installer and redownload the modding api
This means it worked btw

It’s probably custom knight since it said it needed a update so I updated it then the mods stopped working

You mods folder is empty, global settings files are yeeted. But Mods option shows up in in-game settings so API exist. Idk what's wrong

@brazen pasture if you do look at the charm issue, Would you consider changing the Mac path for the skins. Currently for Mac its content/managed/mods while the normal mods are content/resources/data/managed/mods which imo doesn't make sense
