Hello, new to HK modding here, and PC mods in general. I saw a Youtube video that guided me through the process of downloading the mod installer, and in his video, it auto-downloaded mod common as well. The video is from 2019, so I assume things have changed since then, but when I run the installer.exe, I get the "unhandled exception has occured in your application" message, and mod common isn't auto-downloaded. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

He had a link in the video description, which is the radiance.host/mods/ModInstaller.exe link.

I downloaded the installer today, but the video that had the link is from 2019.

The installer.exe was running out of my downloads folder, if that's what you mean.

speaking of, I see the Modding API .zip in the game folder. I read the Readme.Text and saw that I needed to copy drop the contents of the .zip into the hollow_knight_Data folder, and did so.

I am not certain, but would guess that to be the case. When I run the Installer.exe, even as admin, it doesn't auto-install anything else, I just get a blank ModInstaller window with one button that says MANUALLY

Try restarting your pc and resetting the installer following the directions in the pins(this is nothing related to deleting and reinstalling the installer)

Recently my downpatched HK file has hit a lot of frame drops at various points making it difficult to practice. I've checked my CPU and purged any unnecessary processes running on it. Would this be a purely CPU/GPU thing or could it be because of the mod itself? (I have a clean file as well)

It depends on the mod for what place you need to be in the file

Also it depends on a lot of stuff(including mods) for the crash stuff

Though if you use 15-20 mods that aren’t dependency/helper mods, I can guarantee a lot of lag or a crash

hey.. i'm having a little trouble with the hollow knight mod installer. I have been able to install a few of the mods (enemy randomizer, hollow point, pain of path, etc) but it seems to be sticking on the poorly translated mod. every time i try to install it from the mod manager it gives me a popup saying an unhandled exception has occurred in the application and "end of central directory record could not be found" regardless of whether i click continue or quit from this screen the mod does not seem to be installed. help??

@warm rivet known bug, manually install mods like that by downloading the dll file for it from the google drive then clicking the manually install mods button on the installer then selecting the dll file you downloaded

Check under appdata/local low/team cherry/hollow knight and have a bit of a look around in those folders.

I'm not certain they are normally stored as image files, though. That's why Custom Knight exists

If you're trying to edit a skin you will want to:

Download Custom Knight
Download Go Dump and Sprite Packer
Open Hollow Knight
Have the skin you want to edit active through Custom Knight (or just default if you're making one from scratch or whatever)
Follow the instructions on Go Dump to get the files you need.
Follow the instruction video on Sprite Packer to get the individual sprites.
Be creative with your drawing app of choice
Use Sprite Packer to put your new skin back together.
Go Go Go

Heya, I've installed the modding api and debug mod on a downpatched HK. I've suddenly been getting a lot of dropped frames during various parts of the game. Is this a symptom of the mods? Do I have to recreate a clean downpatch and install the mods again to avoid this?

in mac, ~ is just a shorcut for /Users/your_username

so it'd actually be Users/your_username/Library/Application Support/ and so on instead of just /Library/Application Support

karmic delta Heya, I've installed the modding api and debug mod on a downpatched HK. I've sud...

Want to bump this because I copied a clean downpatch and installed mods, and the same frame skips are happening. Doesn't happen on my native installations either current patch on steam or on my clean version. Is this just something I'd have to deal with or is there any way to mitigate it? Frame skips are happening with no other open applications aside from Livesplit

I will say... when I launch my downpatch it now launches Steam? Which it didn't before but I'm not sure if that's because steam was already open in the past or if it's something else entirely
