❗Hollow knight Crashes upon opening, after installing a mod
This glitch can happen for a number of reasons make sure that all the reasons listed listed below don't apply to you.

🔹 Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used.

• Scarab is made for patch 1.5.78+
• Modinstaller 1 & 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2
• there aren't installers for other patches.

🔹 Something didn't install correctly

• Ensure that the installer is not still in a .zip file, and that it's not in your Downloads folder.
• Run the installer as Administrator

Your game is pirated / illegitimate.
Piracy is not supported in most communities for games. Mods are not considered compatible with pirated copies, and you will not get troubleshooting support in any of the main servers for them.

HK Modding is only supported on the official versions from Steam, GoG, or the Microsoft Store.

That said, the only time the game references specific buttons in game is when picking up spells or skills. And the button that's shown doesn't impact that actual controls (they're the same layout regardless of xbox/ps)

If you are going by what scarab says keep in mind it does not always accurately flag updates. I'd say get rid of anything you're not actually using and also things that are redundant (you don't need steel soul hud if you have change hud for example)

This should fix errors that prevent the program from opening.

• Press the WindowsKey + R at the same to time to bring up the "Run" window, then enter %appdata%\..\..\CustomKnight Creator and press Enter.
• Delete the savestate.json file.

Save Files
The save files for Hollow Knight are shared between all installs of the game, and are easily interacted with.

🔹 What do the save files looks like?

• Hollow Knight save files are in the form of user#.dat, where # is the save slot for the file..
• You can take a file named user3.dat and rename it to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot.
• You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer.

🔹 Reverting Backup files

• You have save file backups that are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. Typically speaking, you will have your last three backups.
• You can set a backup to be the real file by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup file.

🔹 Modded save files

• If you are using mods, a modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). Both this file and the user#.dat are part of the save.

🔹 Where are the files?

• On windows, the default path for Save Files is %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
• For other operating systems, type ?saves into chat.

Reboot your computer, make sure that you have Satchel installed, delete the two Global Settings files for Custom Knight, then launch the game

• Move the file you downloaded (mac.zip) to your Desktop
• Double-Click it, and Scarab should appear
• Right-Click the Scarab icon, and select "show contents"

🔹 ⚠️Scarab cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

How to fix Installer Errors
🔹 Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
🔹 Make sure that all 4 installer files have been Extracted from the .zip and that the new folder isn't in your Downloads folder. (Extract the 4 files to your desktop)
🔹 Right-click the installer file, and select "Run as Administrator".

Hi, I need some help installing Scarab?
I've downloaded the windows zip file from github and have extracted the files, but when I try running the scarab.exe file, I first got a warning message from Avast saying that it's infected with some kind of malware and the file is blocked from running.
After trying again, the .exe file just disappears and nothing happens.

Scarab.exe vanishes after I start it!
This happens when you have antimalware software that falsely flags Scarab as being malicious. To fix it, you will need to make an exception in that program for Scarab and/or Scarab's folder.

I've installed Butterfly and I've been trying to get mods working by downloading the zip file from the github link I get from butterfly, extracting the file, and putting it into the hollow knight mods folder, but that doesn't seem to work. There's no change to the game.

it does say in butterfly that I have one of the mods installed and enabled. It's a skill upgrader mod that's supposed to have toggleable skill upgrades, but I don't see any settings menu or anything where I'm supposed to be able to toggle skills on and off
