yes, of course some are required for progression but just because youve encountered them it doesnt necessarily mean you need to beat them just yet, the case might be that for some early game bosses but always try looking for a different path if you dont feel ready to go agaisnt a boss

You can't really skip the bosses. You can skip the first main one and a lot of bosses are optional but all other mandatory bosses are either not able be skipped or can only be skipped with large glitches

if you havent ||gotten a map youll get one quite soon, but whenever you do and you acquire the quill item at dirtmouth you will be able to see all the rooms youve been through alongside a few you may not have, and most importantly most of the rooms will actually have holes in the sides of them like a little tunnel leading up to nowhere, those mean places you have not explored so going to check those almost always guarantees you find something new or progression, and if one of them are inaccessible you can always buy and use map markers to pin them down so you can remember you couldnt go through there and why||
