||as soon as you see him do any attack, jump. For triple slash, move in the opposite direction while jumping and pogo to get over it.
You can also often use shade dash, but I recommend trying to keep that in case of a parry||

Hey y'all. I got a little progression question. I played HK when it was brand new and now my wife is giving the game ago. Her pathing has been ||greenpath -> fungal wastes -> mantis village -> beat mantis lords after three hours of trying -> crystal peak -> got crystal heart|| and now she is planning to venture into ||Deepnest ||while wielding a basic nail, no mask upgrades and no mana upgrades.

She's really enjoying the challenge so far but in my memory I did ||Deepnest|| waaay later in my run and I still found it really hard. At what point did you all tackle that area?

Use the ||Shade Cloak||. ||Dash through him whenever he charges at you and hit him. You won't have many healing opportunities, try not to get hit. Like, at all. He does double damage, as I'm sure you already know||

||His jump and dash is easy to avoid, as it is always at an angle of about 45°. You can't avoid his shockwave, so you'll need the Cloak to dash through those.||

you are aware that ||hitting their armor will reset the stagger timer without progressing the fight (like hitting the head does), and allow you to heal/dream nail for soul (technically twice) before just hitting the armor again. also makes a different sound on the final stagger where they will never be getting up and so you can just spam dream nail and heal as much as you want (assuming they didn't get stuck on the wall) to enter the next fight with a guaranteed full health and soul||, right? time should not be an issue

correct. most particularly abusable on the early stages to get enough soul to ||magdump spells and get to the next phase very fast. note that in the tantrum the mace has a damageable hitbox so timed correctly fireball can triple hit (mace close, body, mace far) for massive damage||.
