Hihi, new player here. I request for advice with some controls (keyboard user) since I'm having trouble with my experience in the game.

Just some background knowledge, I'm not an avid gamer 🥲 so I don't tend grasp things quickly and take a bit of time to understand stuff. I've currently started playing Hollow Knight for the first time and explored a bit of Forgotten crossroads.

Currently I cannot get used to how 'z' is the default jump button and I've changed it into the 'up arrow' key as it makes more sense to me. I've noticed the 'up' use for now seems to only have the knight look up so I thought it'll be alright to swap the controls and instead change the z into 'up' action instead. However I've noticed it has messed up with other mechanics such as shopping (||and perhaps other future powerups/equips which I'm aware of||) and it's disappointing for me. Any advice on how I can make my gaming experience comfortable with the controls (or do I succumb to the defaults which I'm having trouble with? 😭 )

Choose between moving with your right hand or your left hand.
Ultimately your own comfort is the priority, use what you can habitually stick with.

As for pointers to create “good” bindings:

-things that restrict, pause, or interrupt movement are best kept near movement keys. When you stop moving, the same hand that stops inputting movement can input the immobilizing input. (Healing, opening the map, etc)

Things that require precise timing or frequent use can go to your other hand.

Things that are responsive to directional inputs should NOT be near your movement keys. (So try not to make the same hand pick a direction AND time an input).

What I do:
left hand used WASD for 8 directional movement (north, south, east, west, and northeast, northwest, etc)

Healing, special abilities, and the map key near WASD (keys like Q, F, E, R, are popular)

The radiance is weak to spell damage. Fight only as a fully upgraded player.
The radiance is actually 2 bosses. One boss shoots face projectiles only after a teleport. The other boss is invisible and summons arena hazards that sweep the entire arena. Turn off music to be able to listen for attack cues. Don’t go for chip damage, go for HUGE nail combos that you get by getting close||

||Shaman stone and Qslash are your best bets here.||

phase 1.3: the spikes can be destroyed with d dark use that to ur advantage and d dark whenever you can’t use dash

phase 1.6: only hit him when you have the big gaps

phase 2: again don’t go risky just stay away until he’s done with an attack and hit him 1 or 2 times

phase 3 (climb of hell): for this you have two options

option 1: climb and only climb like there’s no tomorrow

option 2: bait out the lasers then dash in and climb up, it’s a rhythm so you should jump when it starts and land when it ends then repeat.

final phase: the orbs despawn when they’re off screen, pogo 2 times on radiance while the orbs fly off the screen, then jump with monarch wings and dash wherever he teleports.

||that was easy, I just dash through his dash, and try to stab him while he's uppercutting away... no problem there. The hard one is the diagonal dive bomb because if I jump straight up I often hit my head on his trail, gotta dodge the correct direction and then jump the correct direction to get a couple of pogo hits in. I kept out thinking it and doing all of that early because my brain was ahead of the sequence lol||
