There are some pretty complicated implications that come with it, and the abundance of silk associated with the Pale King in other areas of the game. Many speculate the Weavers had something to do with the Hollow Knight's sealing because of it||

Hollow Knight's one of those games people want to experience entirely spoiler-free. Very worth it!

Anyways, in regards to your qa-huery:
||You aren't supposed to have any number of charms at any point in the game, lol. Your friend is just straight lying to you. You can complete the game charmless.* To get more charms I would recommend rescuing grubs (it only gives you one charm, but it's a pretty alright one for a new player), exploring, and collecting geo. Sly sells Gathering Swarm in Dirt mouth and there's an NPC in Fungal Wastes that sells a charm that increases the geo you get when you kill an enemy, if you're strapped for cash! Generally, just run around and stick your nose wherever it'll fit, and you'll find something neat

||i seem to have been mistaken about Pure Completion btw but i'm at 111%. have every charm and done p1-p4, though i haven't beaten NKG or figured out how to get the voidheart(?) charm. i don't want help for voidheart though. I'll figure it out myself, whatever it takes. but yeah basically the only things i have left are NKG, p5, trying my hand at every attuned, acsended, and radiant, forms of bosses, and doing pantheons with binds to find out what's behind the door with the blue light||

||that is a valid playstyle for sure but i think objectively speaking long nails range is smth that is nearly negligible in most scenarios in terms of safety. and i also think that part of being a better player is to learn how to optimize damage in a consistent manner, and while long nail helps with the consistency, it is harmful to the damage optimization which is why i generally dont recommend long nail for late game builds||
