||yes, a general rule of thumb is that if a boss arena locks u in, u can’t place dgate. If u can leave freely, then u can place dgate. And yes u should be able to teleport out of any boss arena (as long as the boss isn’t in an interior subarea or smth similar but I can’t remember if any boss was like that)||

Markoth is often deemed one of the hardest and most annoying bosses to do Radiant, so here I’m suggesting 2 different charm builds catered to 2 different strategies of dealing damage in the first phase. As you may be able to tell, one is nail art based, and one is based around using the regular nail.

In both strategies, we want to save our soul for the second phase, to attack him with Shade Soul, because he’s much harder to hit in his second phase, and it’s significantly harder than his first.

Using elegy to pierce through his shield is a strategy many use for this fight, but in my opinion, this makes 2nd phase much more difficult and isn’t worth giving up all of your soul gain.

Markoth cannot transition phases during his shield spin attack. If you happen to get him on the brink of his 2nd phase right before he does a shield spin, you can avoid hitting him until he does his shield spin to deal some extra damage before you fight his 2nd phase.

If you’re using the nail art strategy, it will take 11 great slash or dash slashes to reach his 2nd phase. If you’re using the regular nail strategy, it will take 15 regular nail hits.

During his shield spin attack, you can shade dash through his spinning shield at the start of the attack, get some hits in with the nail or with nail arts depending on your build, then shade dash out. If you’re using the non-nail art build, you mainly only want to attack markoth during his shield spin attack in his 1st phase, although if you get lucky with his position and his shield’s, you can get some extra hits in without too much effort.

His shield(s) will rotate around him, changing directions about every 3 rotations.||

||1) It’s important to know when to switch sides, if u see markoth starting to drift to the side u r at, u need to immediately switch sides to avoid getting cornered. Heavy blow also helps with space control. 2) projectiles can’t spawn directly on u, what is happening is that u r falling down onto the projectiles, and since falling speed is quite fast, its very hard to react when a projectile spawns directly below u. This can be mitigated by not staying airborne for extended periods of time, and especially avoid falling down for a prolonged period of time. 3) only go for narts if markoth shield is facing away from u, if u try to go for a nart when markoths shield ia going to spin towards u, more likely than not u r going to get hit||
||and another thing I want to point out is that if u aren’t fully comfortable using narts, u can always try another strategy, just cuz narts is one of the most consistent doesn’t necessarily mean u have to use them. A nail / spell hybrid can also work fine, like strength + shaman stone + quick slash + steady body + mark of pride. U just need to approach the fight a bit differently in that case, the movement should be relatively similar but the attack windows and punishes will be different||

• You can upslash and downslash if you are in the air, very useful for combat
• You can't softlock yourself, if you ever feel like you get somewhere you shouldn't be at, you'll not be stuck at all
• In the long run geo(the currency) isn't too important, you'll get enough eventually so don't worry when you lose some
• You'll die. A lot. And that's normal
• Team Cherry liked breakable walls so they are more than present in the game
• There never is a useless room, you'll always get something for exploring
• In metroidvanias such as Hollow Knight, you collect upgrades as you play, allowing you to reach new areas. If you don't think you can reach somewhere, you probably can't. Come back later when you have an upgrade that allows you to reach it.

||for the narts strat it is safer to just always stay out of range of the shield spin attack and don’t go for a huge punish, just two dash slashes is decent enough damage for each shield spin. The reason I suggest getting more aggressive for hybrid build is cuz ur damage output will be rather low otherwise, u don’t get as many chances to hit markoth normally with just nail swings||

Honestly ||since im using only great slashes i count by how much soul i got, when i get a full tank but not the 3 vessels yet that's like mid way to phase 2, if i get full tank and 2 vessels that's like one hit away from phase 2, which i would end up with the maximum amount of souls to spam markoth but even after that he remained alive||

||ppl have beaten radkoth with pogoing but I wouldn’t really recommend it since it unnecessarily complicates things since u have to constantly watch for projectiles, the spinning shield, and markoths drifting. Not as consistent as many other strats imo||

||yea keeping track of ur soul is a great way to anticipate the phase change, the phase change happens at a little over full main soul meter + two full soul vessels, so u should be spamming shade soul when u have about that much soul. U can also try to position urself under markoth on a shield spin so u can spam shrieks as the shield spin ends, that can actually completely skip second phase and kill markoth before he even spawns in his second shield. But it can be a bit awkward to setup especially if markoth isn’t doing shield spin in the ideal places||

||yep, for this the ideal scenario when u r nearing the phase change is that markoth does a shield spin attack above one of the higher platforms, u wait out most of the shield spin attack out of range, then as the shield is about halfway receded, start moving in to position urself right under markoth on the lower platform. Then start spamming shrieks, since markoth is still in shield spin when u start this he should stay in place. Then once the shield spin attack ends, he should immediately start transitioning to phase 2, this just means u have an even larger time window to continue shrieking, so keep shrieking even after the shield spin attack ends (projectiles stop spawning during the phase transition so these shrieks are safe as well). If done correctly, markoth should die during the phase transition||
