||you will probably want to use spell damage for this fight, especially with shaman stone. vengeful spirit is always usable for damage; sometimes you can use ddark and either prevent damage for a few seconds or deal damage to galien if he's drifting close to the ground (or both!). if you land the big ddark hit (when you impact the ground) it deals 50 damage, which is much more than VS's 20, and the hitbox is extremely large (mainly in the horizontal direction), so it's worth going for||

ive been wanted to replay the game recently and pick off all the achievements i have missing on my steam, and the controller ive been playing on for years BETRAYED ME!

using it shuffles the buttons around: jump goes to attack, attack goes to jump, menu goes to right trigger. Some actions disappear altogether! the binds in game are normal. the binds on my steam controller thingie are normal.

using the controller with steam input OFF yields the result above, using the controller with steam input ON sometimes fixes the buttons but disables the joystick, or sometimes fixes everything only for the game to unfix itself within 10-15 seconds and come back to step 1.

ive tried:

• disconnecting the controller and connecting it again
• disconnecting the controller before the game starts and connecting it in the menu
• switching steam input on and off and seeing what happens
• all permutations of the points above
• running the game on wayland and x11
• running the game through latest stable release of proton and hotfix
• verifying game files
• deleting and reinstalling the game
• installing the controller fix mod through scarab (guess what it did not fix)

other games ive tried just today worked fine out of the box (shovel knight) or when enabling steam input (celeste, katana zero). this is LICENSED usb nintendo pro controller. IT IS NOT ANYTHING WEIRD.

finally i see the ?tag controller message in this server:

yea they can spawn quite low, if u get unlucky they can pretty much spawn right in ur face and u have to react really fast in order to avoid getting hit before it fully materializes

that ik, and its somewhat dodgable with ||dive, but if i dont see it anywhere near my danger zone, i automatically assume it spawned somewhere close eighter bellow or above, but not into me, meaning i can lead it away with some slight movement, but i didnt predict it spawning so far away and coming for me from basically offscreen||

when he goes up you should just walk under him, when he ||dashes you can dash thru him||

alternatively just learn the distance you need to keep while fighting him and basically ||pogo all of his attacks with occasional ddarks||

id say the 1st is much more firendly an option tho

||there are a few safe strats for it. by the "narts thing" do you mean parallelogram? that's where you repeatedly dash away from the arena, wings, and dash back towards the arena and dash slash. some claim that this is the safest way to do the phase. another safe way is, when an orb spawns, to just jump and double jump to lure the orb into the ceiling. it's safe but doesn't incorporate damage||

||When the phase starts, it’s usually worth it to heal. There is a chance that you will get hit but you’re more likely to get 2 heals off than get hit so it’s worth it. If you’re at full health when the phase starts, start doing wall jumps to get as high as you can before beams start being fired. Once they start getting fired, stop doing wall jumps. The best way to do this phase is to time your double jump to activate in time with the beam firing. That way, no matter where the beam is aimed you can make it safely to the next platform. If the beam is aimed at you, move toward the platform. If the beam is aimed at the platform, hover in the air for a sec then dash onto the platform. Repeat this until you get very close to the top. Once you get there you’ll want to start jumping far away from the platforms to bait the beam then dash through the beam and land on the next level platform. Don’t try to heal at all once you’ve started actually ascending in the climb because you’ll likely be hit. ||

I say “ish” because many enemies can ||be dreamnailed very easily for infinite soul while on their own. Do that for the garpedes at least||

The map is your most important tool, the map tells you which path you have explored, which paths you haven’t explored
You may want to use the pins that ||iselda sell to mark on your map which path were locked and what locked you from going there (a jump too big, a shacky floor…)||

If you do hit in between attacks, the boss will initiate its next attack instantly instead of waiting its usual delay. Be aware of this if you are fighting a boss that is sensitive to timing, as the defensive AI can throw your timing off. Sometimes it can even be good to not hit in between attacks for this reason.||

But for real...here's how to dodge each of his attacks
||Fire bats: Jump up, and Shade dash towards him. You can get some damage in before he teleports||
||Dive dash: Jump up, and either Monarch Wings jump to dodge completely or pogo him, then dash away to get some damage in.||
||Dash uppercut: Shade dash through him, then stand still between the fireballs. You could also turn around quickly after dodging him and Nail slash him to get some damage in.||
||Cloak spikes: Stand in-between the spikes. If you're in the way, move slightly to the side. If you get good timing and positioning, you may be able to get one heal in.||
||Flame pillars: Stutter step towards him, then Abyss Shriek him before he teleports. If you don't have any Soul, just Nail slash him a couple times.||
||Pufferfish: Quickly get to one side of the arena and circle jump any incoming fireballs. Regular jump for 1, hold jump for 2. Before fireballs start appearing, you may Abyss Shriek him before moving to the side. This attack is unleashed at 75%, 50%, and 25% health.||

||honestly the time u will need to spend in order to get all masks, soul vessels, charms that u use, pantheon boss unlocks, void heart (which is a p5 unlock requirement), doing the first 4 pantheons, doing bindings for any lifeblood that u may want, etc. can also be spent actually practicing gpz and putting in p5 attempts. making an entire new save file and collecting all the stuff again just for p5 is extremely tedious and boring, so u might as well just spend the time getting better at gpz instead. u will find that its not as bad as a fight as u r thinking now, u just need to put in the work to understand the fight||

||dont worry, thk isnt that bad with the gear that u can get within a 5 hr speedrun. but note that a majority of ur dps will come from shaman stone ddark since u wont have that much time to go around and upgrade ur nail more than once. so make sure that u r comfortable with ddarks so that u can end the fight quicker||
