Just a final, quick recap.
Setting process priority to high does help, but it shouldn’t be necessary. Closing all your other apps should always come first, and if you do that, changing priority is basically pointless
Setting your PC to high performance mode works. This only applies to battery powered devices and is mainly there to control how fast your battery drains. If you’re plugged in, you should always be using the high performance profile. There’s also a setting that lets you define which profile to use when on battery vs when plugged in
Lowering resolution absolutely helps, but it should be your last resort since it kinda ruins the gaming experience

Tech person here. Using more system resources doesn't actually decrease the lifespan of most computers appreciably. The hardware is designed to run warm, so that more usage actually makes it last longer than no usage. It is recommended to run things every now and then to preserve the lifespan. You'll notice that oftentimes Windows uses extra resources to download and install things all the time at random because unused CPU processing power is essentially just free.
