as i said, disaster happened
still relatively early game in the grand scheme of things. explored ||crystal peaks|| and found ||the crystal heart|| which is the main thing i needed but i figured i should explore the area a bit more. eventually ||found this area of crushers, just above a gate with a grub behind it which i eventually opened. couldn't get the timing right on them so i died. respawned at the bench above and went down to try and retrieve it, but it was placed behind the crushers which i still couldn't consistently get past so i decided "fuck it. i'll just return to dirtmouth and get jiji to retrieve it for me" but while going up i took a wrong turn and dropped into a subroom with 2 of those damn crystal hunters with only a few masks. next-to-no soul and a shaky disposition from being tense... yea.||
i died, ||old shade|| got removed while a new one took it's place and i lost the ||800 something geo|| i had on that ||shade||. fucking god i'm still mad thinking about it
might be a bit overkill with the spoiler tags in here but again better safe than sorry

||crystal peaks|| in general is just agony. even in my original playthrough where i was kinda just bumbling around and didn't yet have a full grasp on what to do with metroidvanias like this i found it the hardest area yet, and i didn't even fully go through it!
||enemy selection is mean for starters:

• husk miners throw pickaxes at you like hammer bros and slap you if you get close
• crystal hunters hover just a bit out of range and shoot crystal projectiles at you which become obstacles you gotta break
• those crystallized laser tiktaalik-types are all but invulnerable as far as i know and can be hard to avoid. either as they round corners while lasering and sweep the entire area with the laser. or if multiple of their lasers come at you at once
• even the "crystalcreep" guys that jut out spikes if you get close can be annoying. especially with how they can be placed
  the enviormental mechanics can be pain to deal with too. with:
• conveyors, simple enough but they can mess with movement
• platforms that turn spike-side up when stepped on and need to be swatted to return to a safe-ish form. though if you get spiked you'll probably just end up sliding off. either losing progress or falling into...
• spikes. thousands upon thousands of crystal spikes. it's one thing to get hit and fall off a platform but it's another thing to get hit again by the spikes below and get sent back a ways
• and of course stationary laser crystals. that one bit of platforming before you get the crystal heart was a big offender for me because it throws timing into the mix when you're already trying to parkour past conveyors. spikes. flipping platforms and enemies||
  point is that i don't think i'll be returning to this wretched place of ||shimmering crystals and suffering|| next session. there's probably other places i can go and visit now anyway

There isn’t really a set in stone best built early game, I would not recommend ||mark of pride, not because it isn’t a good charm but if you use it too much early on you will not be able to remove it, regardless of how much it benefits you
I would recommend using shaman stone more, it’s really good (I guess shaman stone mop is possible, or shaman stone soul catcher and then something) thorn is in general really bad, as you are invincible after getting hit for enough time to hit the enemy while invincible, so it has no purpose (you don’t really have much other one notch charms though…)||
