In the endless caverns of the deep underground, creatures moved through instinct alone. They ate when hunger came, they fled when danger approached, and they rested when exhaustion forced them still. There was no language between them, no shared identity, and no concept of 'I.' Each being was only a fragment of motion in a vast, quiet ecosystem.

At the very bottom of this world lay something different: the Abyss.

It was not simply a deeper cave, but a wound in reality itself. A vast chasm where light failed and sound lost meaning. Within it stirred the Void, an unknowable force that pressed against existence without fully becoming part of it.

The Void did not think or desire, yet it moved as if aware beyond comprehension. It gathered in pools of darkness, shifted like a sleeping ocean, and responded faintly to disturbances above.

Above it, life continued in ignorance, while deep below, the Void waited. The Abyss was not empty in the way surface minds understood emptiness. It was a presence without shape, a silence that felt heavy rather than absent. No creature living above could perceive it fully, yet all things above it were subtly influenced by its depth.

Even the stones seemed to forget themselves when they reached too close to its edge, as if memory could not survive in such darkness. And still, nothing within it moved with intention, only with inevitability.

Far above, the first fragile ecosystems continued their cycles of instinct, unaware that beneath them lay a force that predated thought itself, waiting for something that had not yet been named. The world remained unaware, and nothing had yet changed its course silently waiting.
