Also for the elevator by the grub it's faster to take it down to the middle and then send it up and drop down.

After the run concludes, you can find your RTA by switching the livesplit comparison from Game Time to Real Time, and that'll give it to you to include in your submission! You could also add a real time timer to your livesplit, in case you're worried you might forget to switch back.

I finished my first speedrun of hollow knight yesterday and got a time of 7 hours 11 minutes and 26 seconds. I wanna get it down to below 5 hours (for achievement) but that requires me to not spend 45 minutes on watcher knights and 2 hours on thk. How do I get better at those bosses because I don't think godhome is a good option (too many upgrades and too much health) (I did my run with shade soul 6 masks and shaman stone in terms of offensive capabilities (desloate dive as well)))

crossroads stag, (get a mask shard on the way [the one above the weird worm thingy]) gruz mother, sly, bench warp, false knight, vs, zote, hornet, get shaman stone, queens station+mask shard, claw, mantis lords, lemm+nail upgrade, go back to sly buy 2 mask shards and lantern (if not enough just grind it wont take that long its a 5 hour limit), sly's key, crystal dash, go back to sly and buy elegant key, stag to city, soul sanctum (dive and shade soul), crossroads stag, go right above the gruz mother arena and cdash into blue lake and get dream nail and enter city from right half, golden geo dude, watcher knights, then deepnest from mantis village into beasts den, then crossroads acid skip into uummu and the last dreamer, go to black egg and beat the game.

I tried to optimise the route so that i don't reroute as much and I can still go for shade soul otherwise i have too much skill issue

Starting runs from autosaves

Starting runs from the new-game wakeup autosave is now legal. If you decide to start runs from the autosave, you MUST set your LiveSplit "Start Timer at" option to 21.76.

Setup guide

• Change your starting split from Start New Game (Start) to Act 1 Start (Start) in your autosplitter settings (or on HK Split Maker).
• Change Start Timer at: from 0.000 to 21.760 in your splits settings
• You can also make splits starting from this template on HK Split Maker
• To make the autosaves folder read-only so you don't have to scroll, check out #1365521442741026900 message

Other notes

• This time was chosen to exactly match TAS (i.e. a perfect bind input) when going left. It loses 0.6 to TAS when going right.

If autosave starts are disallowed in the future we will propose another method to skip the cutscenes, and runs using autosave starts prior to that change will be allowed to remain on the leaderboards.

For speedrun u would essentially do early hm -> swift step -> cloak -> savage beastfly
For minimum game completion u would do low% up to cling grip -> cloak -> savage beastfly for a total of 1% (cling grip)

Hard to give specific advice without seeing a video of u attempting bs2. But there are a few important aspects. First, you should be trying to get coyote frames on the initial sprint jump, the more coyote frames the better. Second, u need to have good represses, this way u lose minimal height when u cloak. Third, u need to buffer the wall jump almost immediately after the dash in order to get a wall jump frame 1, it’s common for ppl to wall jump too late and slide off the wall instead. Fourth, the overall timings of the float, dash, and wall jump are important. I just mentioned the wall jump timing but for the others you want to float at the peak of the sprint jump, and dash once u r near enough to the wall where u can dash straight into the wall without losing too much height.
If you are still struggling, I would recommend joining the pinned speedrunning server and asking around there. They will definitely have some more specific advice than what I’m saying here. There also exist resources for learning bs2 such as visual cues or timings in the speedrunning server.

I think I might have a new speedruning strategy that's good for begginer speedruners(like me). Basicly the only addition is that when you enter COT(trough blue lake shade skip) after doing the things like killing gorgeous husk etc, you go for dive and then for watchers, and that's pretty much it, the rest is just the usual ANY% route. Dive helps a lot especially during watchers cause it gives you a few invincibility frames and it pretty much gives you more dodging oportunities and also for more damage output or dodging capabilities for other boss fights. I don't think I'm the first to discover this but hope it helps 🙂 You can also go for a mask if you want to have more safety👍 (I'd also recommend getting a nail upgrade but its optional)

MiniSave states is a modified assembly. It's used instead of the modding API. So it is kind of a mod, but it's a very specific one, and you can't use other mods at the same time with it. It is allowed in some (most?) IL categories. The category rules should cover it

Hey guys, I found what I think might be a good tip for the 100% speed runners. The room with the bench that's closest to Groal The Great has some bags suspended from the ceiling. If you break those open some Pilgrim corpses drop out of them. If you still have the "Garb Of The Pilgrim" quest active, then pilgrim shawls will be dropped with those bodies.

Not sure if this is known already, or if it would actually save any time over a different route, but I thought it was worth mentioning

It’s a bit counterintuitive but u can do like a small jump right before the floor collapses to avoid the hardfall, and make sure not to hold right the entire time u falling since u will still get a hardfall if u fall to the lower ground to the very right.

I think fireborn's guide is still quite useful and a very good starting point. There are minor differences (especially if you want to run current patch), but overall it's a very good starting point. There is a newer route (via isma's tear), but it's much harder so most people don't use that (unless you want to go for like a top 10 time). Then you can have a look at what top runners do and make the changes

Congrats for your achievement, especially if you've routed it yourself! If you're interested, there is a route that lets you go much faster than that. See if you can go sub 2h, or even sub 1h!

Routing a casual route mostly comes down to what you want for fighting the bosses and what skips your willing to learn.

Radiance is gonna be one of the biggest hurdels so you would need to find out what you need to beat it

I'd say Shadesoul, Ddark, Shriek, nail 3 and 2 extra hearts would be the most I can imagine putting into the route.
