You don't really need to do 20hs on Steel Soul, but as usual on SS, if you're low on health, save and quit. Don't panic trying to save a few seconds or minutes, 20hs is way more than enough time.

Yeah, it's quite long, and as the last step of a speedrun, many times you end up rushing and disrespecting the boss to get a better time. It's similar to fighting AbsRad in P5, where you f up easy segments you normally don't mess up

Hey! I’m not sure if this counts as speedrunning, but I found a glitch earlier today that I think could help with speedrunning. I don’t know if anyone has found this before me so if they did, please don’t roast me for being behind the times. I haven’t found any practical uses for it yet, but I think there is something there. Basically, you double tap the save menu button and it gives the menu while you can still move around. This makes it so you can do things like change your settings while still playing. I haven’t done much testing, but I collected a hallownest seal and after I quit out and it didn’t save, so maybe there’s something with that. I’d love to know if anyone finds something interesting with this glitch, so if you do any experiments, please tell me the results

The 5 hour guide is good for the achievement and gives you DDark with Shaman and Spell Twister for combat
I don't remember the exact route but it goes something like
FK, VS, Greenpath to Dash with vengefly king, fungal notch, Dashmaster and Mantis Claw, Nail Upgrade 1, Spell Twister, Dive, Lemm sale, Gruz Mother, Shaman Stone, 5 charms and a charm notch, Lantern, CDash and DDark, Dream Nail, Lurien, Isma, Monomon, Herrah, THK
That way you do most hard fights with one nail upgrade and DDark

You don't need to be super fast to go for 5 hours, so just heal when you need to and play it slow. Rushing it I think I got somewhere around 1h 20m, and I'm nowhere close to top runner times, so there's a big error margin to play with

Hi. I was asking in #hk-help about dark rooms and someone suggested asking here as well. I was hoping to do a run that gets tram pass before lantern and was wondering if there are any guides or tips on how to do that dark deepnest rooms up to tram pass. I saw a streamer explaining how to do the dark room before DDark with a good consistent strategy and am hoping that there’s a few tips for the deepnest rooms. If not I’m happy to play around in a save with lantern for a while and figure out some reliable strats, but I thought I’d ask here first

Basically yeah, before 1.3 you're allowed to use it to speed up movement as long as you move within space you'd be able to reach without it
On 1.3 and later it's plain out banned from NMG though

Hi, I want to submit a run on speedrun.com, but when I tried using obs to record hk, the video wasn't even at 1fps, I guess my pc isn't powerful enough. Do you have any recommendation on a software to use or an OBS configuration to make it work ?

Obs is one of the "lightest" recording programs out there. You can try lowering the recording specs overall and/or running the game at a lower framerate, but I don't know if there's any different software that will work on a low end machine; maybe someone else may have a suggestion tho. If all else fails you can just point a camera at your monitor.

1221 is a very poorly optimised patch and doesn't run very well on slower computers
we have a board for patch 1.4.3.2+ though, so you can just run on current patch if your pc has trouble with 1221

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but recently my hk 1.22.1 installation is capped at 60 fps. This didn't used to be the case and current patch still has ~300-400 fps, so does anybody know how to fix this? I can give more information if needed.

- as long as xbox capture lets you upload to a permanent video hosting site and captures audio you should be fine
- if you plan to submit to speedrun.com, find the console runs and check the rules for timing etc

I don't think there's anywhere to submit a 2 hit run. If you want to submit an eventual hitless run you'll want to check the Team Hitless rules. I think there's a website & a discord (hitless runs are not on tracked on SRC)

The splits from hksplitmaker should come with auto-splits, if they don't try importing the split file into livesplit again
Sometimes it loses them if they're imported before the auto-splitter is activated

There are many ways to do it, worth noting that wall cling storage on latest patch only lets you jump off the wall for a double jump. The other uses like multiple dashes and preserving dash momentum are patched. You can get it by standing in a corner so that you just barely touch a wall. Then you jump and dash away which will keep the wall touching state. You can also get it by timing a dash through a gate while it is opening. Also possible to get it using transitions. Tas can get it on pretty much any wall by wiggling to touch the wall and away from it frame perfectly but it's too precise for humans

Check the autosplit settings & make sure the splits are present there, sometimes splits need to be redownloaded if they're missing. If you still have trouble, join the server in pins & look at the livesplit troubleshooting that's pinned in the tech support channel

The most important part is using quick cast. Other than that it's just timing, spend as little time facing the other direction as possible, jump as late as you can, start casting after the apex of your jump
Note that the most important boost comes from the fact that casting a spell resets your vertical velocity, it's not the pushback

Any% should not have any dark rooms, you usually buy lantern to get into peaks, and so you leave herrah as your third dreamer

Beast Den is a pretty awful section. To fight the devouts without damage tanking (because well, that too often ends on my death) I end up baiting them into taking Dream Nail hits and just try to spell them to death, it's quite slow, but it's also quite safe - dying is slower.
Also probably practicing undergeared THK fight is a good practice, since it can be pretty hard

If you do QGA/Deepnest Hot Spring checkpoints somewhere below 45 min you should be able to pull it off
If you usually get to those sections with higher times, it's likely that there's a better section to improve on

I think early lantern for peaks access and delaying dive has been very common as a strat in vanilla bingo. Because cdash saves a lot if you use it well

If you attack the spore early on, it will explode immediately. But if it has already started to do the explosion animation then hitting it won't cause it to explode and you can pogo it. You have to time it carefully

If you’re no already doing this, try to time your hits so you hit when the cool down ends instead of spamming.
Also keep the file, and just do that fight a couple times, learn what are the safest ways to dodge each attack, when you can heal if you get to low hp, etc

Hey guys I'm wondering if anyone here can help me with something. I'm attempting what is probably one of the stupidest things anyone in this community has ever done. I'm trying to do a low-percent, bare minimum, true ending play through. Basically true ending low percent but I can't use anything in the game that the game saves you as having used if they aren't required so no geo deposits, whispering roots, stag stations, etc.
I'm just wondering if any faster method of farming essence from enemies has been found other than the bee strategy, really hoping I don't have to spend 60-70 hours just killing bees for this challenge to be possible

You can't even have modding api installed for runs to get verified, I've heard that Lumafly has a "launch vanilla" option or something that should(?) Work for that
You won't lose progress, the saves aren't affected, just don't try opening them on older versions
There's a good chance 1221 just won't run well regardless, it's very poorly optimized compared to current patch

Keep doing runs to practice. Unfortunately there aren't practice tools for consoles but the route is the same as on pc.

Hoping someone could help with this, but how do I get debug menu (using Scarab) to work on 1.2.2.1? I've used Scarab before on latest patch for randos and stuff, but I wanted to try learning All Skills and being able to make save states and the like would be helpful but I couldn't seem to get it to work on downpatched version

PS4, the split is due to console not having access to the load remover, you can use whatever input method you want beyond that as long as it doesn't break any other rules

Of course it's a bit slower since you don't use lever skip in Spire and inventory drops are actually challenging to pull off, but unless you aim for top time it really doesn't make the downpatching worth it
