Basically, there's a dark room (just like in deepnest) in crossroads, and then there's a toll you have to pay in the dark room

Keep in mind, lantern is expensive, so what you want to do is farm for geo in right side of City, because enemies drop a lot of geo there

I'd suggest watching a regular any% run or at least checking that route, as getting relics for the lantern is more efficient than farming geo

Yeah that'd be a good idea, but you should either practice watcher knights first before attempting the run, or at least get a nail upgrade, cuz failed attempts will waste a lotta time if it's too difficult for you

I usually look at what others do and somewhat copy it, if I need to I practice the room with hitboxes or light first and then without it

you can always figure out a reproduceable strat while being able to see and then transfer that to the dark

most of my experience comes from TAS but i'd say your biggest issues are probably jumping too late and hitting too late

the lower one has a lot more room than the upper when it comes to timing, so when you're trying to get both and you're late you'll often only get the lower one

Yeah. I got Speedrun 1 Achievement and beat HK in under 10 hours using Fireb0rn's speed run guide on Steam...
I think the hardest parts of the any% run for me was probably just dealing with Watcher Knights, and maybe Queen's Garden Mantis Room. But who knows? I've got room for lots of optimization. Beating the Hollow Knight took me the longest, and I finally got that done by taking the Life Blood from Mound and Howling Cliffs. If I practice more and learn The Hollow Knight's patterns more, I'm sure i could do better.

Console can't use the AG ruleset since MMS is useless, if you do an NMMS run on console it'd go under PC category for that ruleset

Most of the glitches work on console, Mantis Claw early control was fixed in 1432, so that won't work, and room duping softlocks the game on switch so you can't do that either

Fastest way is to kill the Great Husk Sentry in the same room as that lever and go through the room normally

I think it’s called “stall ball”, search that, but iirc the vengeful spirit projectile movement speed is partially based on your frame rate, so you turn on v-sync and lower your fps enough, and then if you fire it at a sloped wall you can have enough time to pogo it

yes it is stall ball or slope ball, it's only fully consistent at 50 fps

you can use an external framerate cap or edit the config to set the ingame fps cap to 50

in speedruns most people turn on the ingame frame rate cap for the trick and then turn it off again

because playing at 50 fps isn't great

iirc this happens when you open the two files too close together. If you delay selecting the game mode for a second or two it should work.
The trick is load dependant so if your loads are slower you have to wait a bit, if they're faster you can go sooner

I was wondering if there was still a way to have multiple patches of hollow knight that you can easily play through steam. Maybe one for current, one for 1.2.2.1, and one for 1.2.2.1 with debug mod. I watched tutorials on this and none seem to work in the current version of steam.

Other than the actual downpatch method, which is easier now, the way you have multiple installs hasn't changed, regardless of steam version. If its not working for you, you may have missed a step or done it incorrectly

Ping isn't needed thanks. Steam will always show the main install as being run. If it's actually not launching the other version you may not have set up the appid correctly.

The best way to get better is to play, look up the guide to the 5h achievement, or the any% beginner guide, start running it, you don’t need to restart when you make mistakes, and you don’t need to get a good time, just see how it feels. When you get comfortable, look over the categories (if you aren’t sure what they are, ask here, people will be happy to help), choose one you would like to try, and start practicing it
