am trying to setup livesplit for hk
i'm running into an issue tho
livesplit seems to start correctly with the autosplitter (like the timers goes green and the first split get highlighted) but unfortunately the timer stays at 0 and doesnt change at all (even after am able to move ingame)
i made sure to start livesplit after hk
tried to start livesplit in administrator (doesnt change anything)
even rebooted my computer and yet the timer stays stuck at 0
is there something i can try or do to fix that?

(i followed the tutorial and faq at https://www.speedrun.com/hollowknight/guides/cg9vl to setup livesplit and the splits)

I've done this previously on a windows computer but now I'm on mac and all the files are stored differently so none of the guides work for storing multiple versions of the game. We do not have THK + Radiance individual level
Category that does THK + Radiance with full equipment on current patch would be 107%, and starting from leaving NKG and ending with getting an ending from radiance, the ComSoB (Community Sum of Best) spends about 3 minutes 19 seconds of Load Removed Time

I dont know what is the average time you should aim for tho.
But if you want to do a full game run, I recommend just learning that and learning fights with equip from those runs, as opposed to just full equip (most runs dont have time to get full equip, exception being runs where its required to get full equip)

Yeah, asking what equip speedrunners typically use doesn't mean anything without clarifying what category you're talking about. Python already gave you probably the closest example you'll get to your situation with the 107% ending splits time. But if you're not running 107% that doesn't matter. Also if you're planning a category where you'll downpatch it becomes less useful as THK in particular has a lot of differences between patches

90% of the time when people fail in ts because they press cdash before their dash has ended. Get used to dashing into a wall and starting a cdash without losing height.
I like to start it off of a min height jump every time, as this makes the inputs all relative to each other, rather than the more variable point where you walk off the ledge each time

In the any% speedrun the queens garden acid skip (QGA) is done as going through QG is the fastest way to herrah
That said going through deepnest is less then a minute slower so it can be used instead of you are not confident at doing the skip and QG

It was funny and actually the skips and trick i was able to do them quickly, it just this fight that suddenly looks imposible

Once i got the mantis claws the muscle memory from celeste kicked in and the shade skip took me 2 tries despite being the first time i actually try to do it

Rando does change the Balder hp, you could add that with no items rando'd. But honestly if you're going to play on current patch I'd say just accept the changes and don't try 1221 routes/strats

I'm trying to figure out the best way to skip into fungal or city of tears without dash, claw, or double jump. Trying to look for tips on this. Was told that, "You need to Either StallBall to Fungalwastes or do something like Itemless Shadeskip or one of its easier variations," does anyone know the easiest way to go about this? or to practice air stalling in general? One of the limitations on attack speed with quick slash is actually the nail animation time. By turning around you cancel that animation and can swing again slightly faster. Then it's just using occasional pogos and wings to stay at the right height.
You can slow the video to 0.5 speed to get a better idea of what they're doing.

There aren't really many categories that get nail upgrades unless they're needed for completion or it's a category that does like colo or something. You can route a nail upgrade into any% and skip qga by going deepnest route.

Oh yeah that trick is really hard
You need to press cdash at the right time and at the right height on the wall. So when you dash into the wall if you press it too early nothing will happen and you'll fall into the acid and if you press it too late you'll slide down too far and fall into the acid.
The recommended practice for this to get a feel for the timing is to dash into a normal wall and try to time the cdash so you don't slide down at all

On top of that the jump off on the other side is a quite precise timing as well

Other than this, some bosses drop a large amount of geo, and you can sell relics to lemm (again, locations can be seen on the interactive map)

If you are not sure about how much geo you would get, you can maybe do a test run, and see how much you get from normal enemies, and then see how much you need to go out of your way to get

Usually people want a category which isn’t too hard to start with
Full game categories tend to be quite hard (any% has hard bosses, all skills has some rather hard skips) so people tend to go for shorter categories like Mila%, 4 mask shards…

But you will probably have more luck with that by asking in the speedrunning server

for no major glitches the primary board uses 1.2.2.1. there's also a 1432+ board where most people just use 1.5.78. note that 1221 is poorly optimized so it doesn't run well on low end pcs

so either 1.2.2.1 or 1.5.78 depending on whether you want to downpatch and which board you want to compete on

downpatching does not affect save files as long as you don't enter the save file. if you enter the save it might become corrupt. I'd suggest backing up an important save in case you accidentally enter it

If you want to run 112 you may appreciate running something shorter as a stepping stone to the full run, something like any% (30m), all skills (1h), true ending (1h) or 107% (2.5h).
Regardless you will probably need a fair bit of practice before you can really do 112% runs, and be prepared for your first runs to be much, much longer than wr. Breaking it into splits or segments can be extremely beneficial for the learning process

107 is obviously the most like 112 and is 40 ish mins shorter as it doesn't do godhome but a lot of splits are basically identical
