I used to be able to play on Android, got a new Android, now it seems I can play fine on the new phone but I wanted to be able to play the same account on both phones but the old one never connects to the server.

Same bug as me, I changed phone but kept the same account however it can't connect to server and I can't use the previously purchased tribes

Check that you're still logged in correctly and you have a good Internet connection. If you can't identify the problem, DM Zoythrus, he can help you restore your tribes.

There was quite a long time I had this issue on my old phone, but yes, eventually it started working again after a couiple months. It does seem that the servers are just bad, we often have the servers lagging in the middle of a game or just forcing a restart because of lost connections after leaving the game alone for a few minutes etc on a REGULAR basis on both home wifi and on cell connections so I know its not on our end. It also seems to happen more frequently during peek times like after work /school hours and weekends

"Peak times" doesn't necessarily mean a lot because people play all over the world. Yes, the servers are definitely finnicky, and I have also observed that a connection can't be held for a long time when not actively sending requests. I have no idea if any work is being done to improve it; I think it's low priority for the devs since it's been an issue for a while, but I do hope progress can be made eventually.
