ideas for tools for Polaris to more easily freeze terrain:

  • ice archer able to target water/ocean tiles to freeze them
  • ice fortress freeze the area around its target (tiles only, not units?)
  • mooni cost down (to 3*? and health to 5?)
  • add the inherent ability for all polaris units to freeze the terrain underneath a unit they attack, including ships

I like the ability of creating ice without freezing units, that seems pretty cool

Polaris was already a mediocre tribe (from a competitive standpoint) and only a competitive choice on Archipelago. These are the problems with the suggested nerfs:

  1. The Bank nerf hurt end game. Making Fishing a tier 2 and not starting with outposts hurts early game. Brutal double nerf
  2. Removing manual freeze makes it way harder to lock down cities. Polaris is built to be slow moving but hard to stop. Removing manual freezing ruins this aspect.
  3. Making Mooni's easier to kill wasn't necessary. Gaami's already die easily enough, and they have way higher defensive stats/health.

Midjiwan wants expanding ice to be easier, but Freezing is a really annoying and OP ability and they don't want it to run rampant. My suggestions for the new update and Polaris:

  1. Keep manual freezing for Gaami/Mooni, and allow Mooni's to auto-freeze as well. Don't nerf Mooni defense.
  2. Don't nerf the bank so hard. A 33% nerf is massive. I'd suggest you reduce it to 2-stars, but reduce the land requirement to 15 tiles? It would still be an overall nerf, but would also make the bank a bit better mid game / less oppressive late game.
  3. Swap the place of frostwork and ice fishing on the tech tree, making it cheaper to buy fishing early-game. Frostwork would still be the starting tech.
  4. Ice Fortresses. As a replacement for ships, they fail at everything ships should do. They are essentially worse catapults. Yes, they have good defensive stats, but if your ranged units are in range of the enemies units, they are dead anyways. Since this is the naval update, revitalize the Ice Fortress. My suggestion: give them Dash on ice like sleds do. Alternatively, if you want to spice up Ice Fortresses, they are built like a Da-Vinci machine whose point was to attack all directions. So maybe let Ice Fortresses attack twice? That's just speculation.
  5. To nerf freeze, instead of making it a dash ability to remove ice, make it a dash ability to unfreeze nearby troops.
