So I definitely agree with some kind of extraterrestrial alien life existing. Especially because we have also found and we will keep finding habitable planets where life similar to us can exist. But that's not the only criteria as we never know how the aliens are, what are the habitats required for them to survive, they might need the coldest temperatures like uranus, who knows. As to why the chances of finding them are pretty low in my books, there are 3 main reasons :
Communication and Identification: We just have a vague idea of how the aliens would look which keeps changing with time, point is you can't really predict what you didn't see and hence all of them are just labeled as theories. As for the communication part it's gonna be really hard to intercept a completely different language and I honestly feel that these alien species would understand us before we understand them
Technology: Well considering the most well accepted kardashev scale, we aren't even a type 1 civilization as of now but that doesn't mean that I don't believe we would find actual life in space in the next few decades, I just feel this is more time based
Misinformation: Because of the developments in social media, it is also obvious that anyone can misguide others. This influences people into all kinds of misconceptions about aliens and as long as this kind of information exists, there would always be people who consider the aliens as a threat while I don't really feel like that
As to other theories of parallel universes, I do believe to be a bit skeptical about those even though they make up for quite some interesting theories just because they are just guesses as of now and I really want to see some strong evidences being put forth before actually coming to a conclusion. Its not like I don't believe it, I am just undecided. I definitely strongly believe there are aliens that we would encounter in the future and as much as I love watching sci fi movies, they don't really fit the description of how I imagine aliens to be. Except arrival, being one of the most realistic scenarios of an actual alien encounter that I recommend everyone to watch

I do believe it's more logical to believe that aliens do exist, rather than the fact that they don't. I don't really like the word "alien" since if any other lifeform does really exist in the vastness of the universe, we would be an "alien" to them. Considering the entirety of the universe, we like to believe we are not alone in the universe. There has to exist some form of intelligent life, somewhere in this cold void. We may not come to that happy conclusion but if we do, it may as well be a remarkable as well as quite a scary discovery. What if the intelligent life is far superior to us? It could be a potential interstellar threat. But that's a plot for another science fiction movie. For lifeform to exists there's so many factors, that even if there's a single mistake in evolution, and the lifeform is fucked. So conditions have to perfect, especially for the development of "aliens". I personally like the idea of believing their is someone out there, but considering our research now and technology, there isn't much proof. We have sent countless radio waves and signals in space, but it may as well be a shot in the dark. We never know. Let's look into the more romantic conclusion that aliens do exist. Statistically, they should. Since we have barely touched any of the universe yet. Also the distanced between planets and galaxies are vast, even if they receive our signals, it maybe after the human race is long gone. Even if it's not, to respond to us back, it would take them an immense ammount of time. Hell, we may even find another species of humans on another planets. There several paradoxes behind it too, like the Fermi Paradox, which states that if alien life does exist, where are they? Why isn't the night sky zooming and shining with spaceships all over the sky? Are we really alone? People may have also come to the idea of aliens so as to just comfort themselves from the fact that we are not the only species in this void. Either way, both endings are uncanny.
