I would offer a story like "The Devil In Cell Block D" by Brubaker shows a far better understanding of Punisher/DD's relationship than what is shown here by Zdarsky
Also reading this back i realized i didnt glaze Chechetto's art quite enough, so ill give him extra props here when i say i think this is some of his better work due to the coloring and ratio of action to slower scenes
he came into this comic w/ great prior experience drawing some Punisher and Daredevil in Superior Team Up and Punisher by Rucka, and the art is the best part of the comic.

Where do you draw the line between calling something a rip off from other writers vs calling it an inspiration? In your Cold Day in Hell review you stated that it takes a lot of inspiration on various aspects of The Dark Knight Returns, and that you weren’t just okay with but even glad about. What’s different?

Cold Day In Hell takes inspiration in more of a, homage way, while telling its own unique story. It uses similar theme and format, but It doesnt directly rip off a scene ala Ennis rooftop vs Zdarsky scene here.
You can see a direct similarity: Punisher and Daredevil arguing over a criminals life while Daredevil is restrained. Its something ive noticed Zdarsky does a lot in his run: take many concepts that previous writers already used. I think this is why Zdarskys run impresses new readers, its almost like a greatest hits of previous writers themes, stories, and concepts. If you're new to DD it probably seems awesome but for me ive read these similar story beats before and also done much better.
Even switching gears from Punisher for a moment, we can compare the police chasing after DD in Soules Mayor Fisk to the police coming for DD in This arc.
In Mayor Fisk it felt like a real threat, the police were coming for DD with full force, helicopters, sonics, the works. To the point where ||Daredevil had to use his pre-planned escape plan featuring Blindspot||
This was much more thrilling to me than Zdarskys comic where North and DD have some goofy fist fight in front of half the force.
