while I like consistency in the designs, the older ones' colors felt somewhat muted and still struggling to escape the 2000s 'avoiding the comic book look' trope of adaptations

Ofc, some og comics designs are terrible (like Gambit imho) but even then DP&W somehow managed to succeed at adapting that
