#Did you like the Krakoan status quo?

I’m unsure actually
Eh.
Eh.
Eh.
I just never got that into it
same
It was a desperately needed kick in the ass for the X-books line and I think it could have worked going forward, but it had gotten sloppy in recent years and the ending was badly rushed.
Yes
Krakoa post Hickman is BAD
It was never going to end well
It was a mutant sex cult with a Nazi, multiple sex offenders, and genocidal maniacs leading it
That isn't even mentioning the crucible
Overall, good concept and idea, but in my opinion I think it strayed a tad too far from what made X-Men X-Men.
It would be a good concept
If it hadn't been done like twice before
Mutants find an island to call home
Mutants disagree
Mutants get genocides
That happens literally every few years
Genoshia, Utopia, Krakoa
Yeah, and I don't like how the X-Men kinda deviated from their usual schtick of helping humanity to barricading themselves on an island. That and the countless plot directions they took that I didn't agree with, that felt more OOC than consistent, at least to me, for the characters. But who knows, maybe I am wrong.
Yeah, everyone was so OOC in Krakoa
One of my biggest issues with that Era is Kitty being a alcoholic murderer
Mega cringe, like really so.
The coliseum was another one too, and I scratched my head hard at it.
Krakoa had very underwhelming exceution and fatal writing mistakes.
All of us can agree on that.
BUT
In general I prefer mutants having a home of their own.
The status quo itself isn't bad if it was written better.
But what exactly are mutants without this status quo?
Without a place to call home, mutants will be constantly being hunted and divided while their enemies stack power on them.
And let's be real, Marvel will never make one final peace treaty between mankind and mutantkind so do NOT hit me with the "They should return to society and fix their relationship with humans."
With the mutantkind having a home, writers can constantly keep fucking their relationship with humanity while I don't have to be sorry about my favourite mutants being divided and tossed around every week.
So I say YES for the Krakoan status quo.

The Krakoan status quo is the mutants forgiving their villains and death having no meaning.
Sure, mutants having a home is good
But Krakoa is arguably the WORST example of that
Here's my 2 cents tho...
1- Death always had no meaning in Marvel and specially for X-Men (Not you Thunderbird)
2- Inviting villains to stay on the island is one hell of a fertile land for trouble and I love that.
I very much preferred Krakoa falling a part from the inside because of the messy relationships between heroes and villains.
Rather than it ending with the fucking 6836th genocide from outside forces.
Again them allowing Sinister in and the X-Men having absolutely no problem with their former mortal enemies is bad writing and wasn't executed well.
But that's execution, the status quo itself and the concept is interesting.
Death had some sort of meaning, there was a good period there where Jean was dead for like 10 years straight
It's the way they brought them back, and just forgave them without any reasoning. There is absolutely no reason anyone should have gone to Mystique's wedding
Which was dumb and even dumber to resurrect her.
Again, execution, not concept.
.
I honestly rather admired the bold direction that Krakoa took
It was rather refreshing to have the whole mutant vs humanity relationship shift from being oppressed to being at the same level
Sure the whole resurrection stuff lowered stakes in many aspects
But then it created new opportunities to have different approaches to stories
Probably the best instance I can think of is how Logan's skeletons started getting collected
Or how Cyclops died in the public eye and Scott needed to be careful about being seen
Or just in general, every fight was more for keeping their Krakoa society stable, supported, and alive
Certainly not appealing to everybody but I really liked the drastic difference in approach in Hickman's X-Men ongoing, because it was quite distinctly about all the delicate politics and social relations that Krakoa was being built upon
Overall I don't like Krakoa, but Hickman's stuff was good. But the majority of the stuff outside of his works wasn't really my cup of tea
I think the whole status quo of Krakoa is definitely one of the weaker X-Men status quos, though
I prefer Utopia to Krakoa if we're just talking about the times they've been an Island nation
Always gonna like krakoa as it was my starting point for x-men comics as a whole and I read almost every x-title during the krakoan era, I’m wrapping up on the fall of x now, just a bit behind, looking forward to starting this new era of X-men
Idk
I don’t know
