#Hank Pym's Heinous History

Of course, I'm the number one proponent of Hank Pym deserves everything horrible that happened to him and should have more horrible things happen to him
Bro is a professional Hank Pym hater
In Tales to Astonish 49, with his masculine ego bruised by his lack of power compared to his compatriots, Hank recklessly creates and takes a growth serum, brushing off all concerns from Jan, treating her rudely and dismissively as he revels in his newfound growth power, in what would later be recontextualized as a manic episode.
As seen in the scan, he also destroys his house, embarrasses himself, and lowers property values
People are allowed to say nice things about Hank on here. This is for his ups and downs, after all
Wait can I tell about how he beat up his asian mutant wife in the Ultimate Universe since it's technically out of timeline
ah yes, his biggest crime: upsetting the homeowners' association
go ahead
it's not as if he hasn't beaten up his white, non-mutant wife in the canon timeline
616 Hank did inspire Ultimate Hank, after all
Avengers Academy was probably simultaneously the most wholesome (as written) and most revolting (real world and in-universe context) periods of Hank's fictional history
He was a good influence on a bunch of troubled teens, got past most of his angst and issues, and had a stable, loving relationship with his fellow Avenger Tigra.
It came at the cost of Jan's life and Tigra's personality.
Hank Pym, the abuser, was allowed to move on and be happy because his victim could no longer look him in the eye and guilt him.
Tigra, a second-wave feminist meant to embody the anger, assertiveness, and ferocity of a woman who would no longer be confined to stereotypes of domesticity and being gentle or nurturing, became a gentle, nuturing teacher and mother who was unconditionally supportive of her (formerly abusive) man, and reserved all of her sexiness for him as she stoked his male ego.
Hank got everything he ever wanted and his fans rejoiced, and he did it all without even giving an honest apology to his victim.
Alright, here goes:
So when S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to start their superhuman defense initiative Hank Pym and his wife were chosen for it because of their research with the Giant Man serum. After they fought the Hulk when he went on rampage in New York Janet thought she was getting a night out with him only to find him in his lab, then she starts being nice to him and then what does he do? he gets angry and they start arguing and he says Captain America's flirting with her although he wouldn't if he knew that she was a mutant that eats bugs and then it escalates and he hits her and then he feels bad but Janet is still angry and they get into a fight and then Hank gets really mad and sprays her with bug repellent (when she's naked in small mode) and then she hides under his desk and then he bombards her with a ton of ants and then he feels bad again and says "What have I done" but its too late and then he runs away and later we find out he's been violent to Janet since they started going out.
overall not the best depiction of Hank Pym, but a rather stark portrayal of abuse in-line with the grimdark stuff Millar usually writes
@hardy dock Also some other things from Busiek's run and Geoff Johns' run after it. Hank had a mental breakdown that, give or take some magic, split him into two beings and was threatening to kill him if he couldn't reintegrate himself. His breakdown couldn't have happened at a worse time, because it was in the middle of a WAR WITH KANG, the storyline that would inspire the idea for Kang Dynasty, in fact. And Jan was the chairman, and had to set aside coordinating the Earth's defenses to help Hank, so the result was the Avengers actually had to surrender to Kang. Hank did make it out of the crisis, though. In the short Johns run, he takes Jan to Las Vegas for a wild weekend, all so he can guilt her by reminding her that this is the anniversary of their first marriage. And right after making her feel bad, he proposes marriage to her.
Yes, he proposed marriage to her on the anniversary of their first marriage. The marriage that failed. And it had failed because of you know what.
And he was disappointed when she said no.
so Tales to Astonish 65 has Hank experimenting on his cat despite Jan telling him not to do it
he just laughs off her concern and experiments on his cat anyway to give her "a surprise"
the ending is actually kinda cute though
Wow, I find the fact there's a thread for this hilarious.
It's a little much imo
Because nobody will let Hank Pym live down anything he does.
what he did was so heinous it doesn't deserve to be lived down
the problem is honestly Marvel kept trying to redeem him without actually redeeming him
