#Ahsoka - Episode 8 - Episode Discussion

Multiple scenes of her training have been discussed here. Come on.
That's just a bizarre thing to say at this point.
That's how it goes. You don't do it, until you do it. That's learning.
It's not incremental, it's unlocking something in yourself.
Even speedrun Skywalker got to acknowledge some growth in capability. And it's not a binary open/shut. The whole point of Sabine is reinforcing Luke's door analogy from the Kylo Ren comic
That damn door opens incrementally
Some people have a head start and pull of stupid cool stunts at 1st level while others have to wait til later before they've got it open far enough to pull off a fraction of that
And some train a long time without seeming progress, only to get it one day.
Turns out the door was unlocked all along.
You've provided the perfect metaphor for Sabine's situation as presented in the show.
The door's never locked. It's just various positions between closed, ajar, and open
It also doesn't open all the way at once.
Yeah, that's why Sabine doesn't do some Anakin-level shit right away.
She moves a saber. She yeets a guy.
Padawans do that shit all the time.
Pft. Look at how Ezra developed his ability with the Force in Rebels. Now admittedly there was considerably more screen time to be able to devote to that journey. But it wasn't a sudden on/off switch. He could do it a bit better each time
We see the start of his journey. Sabine had been training for quite some time before the show.
And it certainly wasn't sudden with Sabine. There's been an entire season long process.
There needed to be a reckoning over what happened with Baylan and thebmap, and it needed Sabine to tell Ahsoka it wad something other than fear and desperation thay made her surrender it
Nah, that would he a step back as a teacher for Ahsoka. She's chill with the human element now.
That's what the scenes with Anakin were about, in part. Not freaking out because your student makes some bad decisions.
Just letting shit slide because you're Ahsoka the White now is not being a good teacher. Telling Sabine you believe and trust in her, actively doing that instead of just not mentioning it all, is what we needed to see the master/padawan relationship being
Which she didn't say at all. She just went "hey, the past happened, we're just moving on"
Ahsoka tells her to trust in the Force, and the Force is your feelings and instincts. Trust yourself. That she says that means she trusts and believes in Sabine.
Nah, that convo is entirely in the context of Sabine still struggling at that point with any practical ability with the Force.
Only if you disregard how the Force has been used in pretty much everything since ANH.
It was "yeah, you fuck up, you keep going" at best, nothing about the weight she's been carrying of actively going against Ahsoka's order to destroy the map. Remember, we're told that Ahsoka not listening to Sabine is what got Clan Wren, if not killed, then not saved.
It's not wizard powers, it's self-image.
No, we got told that this is Ahsoka's fear.
Not that it is true.
What, you referring to that insulting little "for thosd who came in late" summation from the droid? It doesn't matter that it was Ahsoka's personal anxiety that made her do it or not: she didn't trust Sabine when Sabine needed her to and in following Ahsoka's lead Sabine's family paid the price. As a character and story beat that really needed to be resolved given it was the key Baylan used to break her.
Just being super mellow now doesn't do that either in universe or on a meta level
Fear does not have to be grounded in reality to master you.
That's kind of a key thing about it.
She was afraid, after the fact, that she was partially responsible for Sabine's loss. That is, of course, nonsense.
It's an entirely normal thing to feel, but that doesn't make it true.
It's not Sabine's fear. It was Ahsoka's, from before the fact, and she's basically never had to make amends for what that did as far as we can see. The droid is attributing the cessation of training to Ahsoka's fear of what an angry force sensitive Mando taught by Vader's padawan might end up, but the confrontation at the observatory makes it clear that fear of her legacy was tainting the master/student relationship before that point
I didn't say it was SAbine's fear.
I would also add that Huyang makes that statement in light of that old perspective…but also as a point of motivation and encouragement for her. “You have the least potential….stop wasting your time avoiding training and get back to it.”
That temple also taught…combat skill, negotiation skills, meditation skills, nunchuck skills…
One could probably argue that Sabine actually finding Ezra aided in her opening up, because in a way, she trusted her gut, her instinct. Something Jedi are told to do. At least that’s how i see it
Her use and growth also, imo, feels very akin ti other examples we’ve seen through the movies of people improving quickly once they “get it”
Oh,,what about Ian McShane for Baylan
love me some Ian McShane but he looks way older than Stevenson did
He also hates being in fantasy stuff, at least so I have heard
Baylan Skoll kinda looks like he'd be animated to look kinda like a big chunk of wood, I dunno if McShane fits the same bill
Problem is I think he was in some absolute turkeys and now shys away from them
Just make him an animated character in Rebels style
He was good in Golden Compass and also that God awful Seeker adaptation to, but they both were not good to say the least, and Compass seems to have had a little production hell going on in its background
He was divine in Kings
Roger Rabbit that shit, yeah
He was also kind of fun to watch in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film
They just allowed him to ham it up as Blackbeard
Didn't Keith Richards appear in that franchise? Or was that a mass-hallucination we all dreamt up?
He did, he plays Jack's father
Captain Teague
Though I admit I had to look that one up
That's his only acting credit where he doesn't play himself, apart from an obscure German film from 1969. Even there, he's an uncredited extra.
Its funny, Thrawn has no idea Anakin had kids
Sure he dit6ched Ahsoka in another galaxy; but he's gotta contend with Luke and Leia now
“Oh, Karrabast, there’s two more of them?”
Okay, I watched Eight.
The choreography when they were fighting the Stormies at the bottom of thr spiral was terrible. Lol
I also didn't find Sabine's use off the Force allt hat controversial.
Who finds it controversial? Is it the youtubers again?
I mean, it was certainly quite a bit of progress for her since the beginning of the series but it's ok I guess
When is it not the Youtubers, frankly? The outrage machine must always be in motion.
Sometimes it's not the youtubers, sometimes it's twotter
Twitter*
Or Website X or whatever the hell
But anyway, unsure Force user suddenly getting the confidemce to use the Force for something that comes in clutch is usual Star Wars story stuff
Idk what they can complain about besides "there wasn't buildup" and I agree there wasn't really a scene where she used the Force "intermediately well" but eh
People were arguing it in here. 1001100x2 and ||Stan||.
Of course
Work is slow these days, what can I say.
Dammit. I thought that censor would work.
The server rules outline what you can't say, so roughly speaking the inverse of that, as interpreted in good faith.
Hm?
You asked what you can say
Damn. You're correct.
They got you good there, Stan.
Just doing my duty, citizen
Should have stayed in bed if it's gonna be like this.
You knew what you signed up for
I have a question.
What are you, the ob/gyn.
hello, FBI, someone's posting threats on the internet
lol
CIA deals with foreign threats
I'll keep that in mind for when the time comes
Since I'm abroad, shouldn't it be a joint-CIA/FBI operation?
Actually, it would probably be InterPol.
Anyway...
It will be the FSB
Shit's in my face, dog.
🤔
Where is this from?
It reads like some Lutheran stuff
Nay clue
Okay, apparently it is Nikolai Berdyaev, Divine and the Human.
Existentialism huh
Translated by R. M. French, to that note.
I looked it up, dw my knowledge is not that encyclopedic
From the original Russian, in fact.
Divine and the Human was published in France
🤢
Hmmmmmm
He was, in fact, exiled from Russia after being accused of conspiracy.
Seems to deep for me. I'll stick to Emil Cioran.
Of course you would
What's that supposed to mean?
Whatever you take it to mean

Primarily it was a reaction to suddenly seeing one of my countrymen in here
Okay, but they're dead.
Correction they are undead
Finally all those stupid theories about Death Troopers being zombies came true
In a way
I saw a few theories like that during Rogue One's release, because of the old EU novel that was literally called Deaht Troopers and had a zombie virus
Some people desperately wanted them to be zombie troopers
Sigh.
For what it's worth I hated it
I mean I am fine with zombies in Star Wars but I didn't want them to be zombie troopers for no reason
It made no sense
I'm pretty sure it's proven incorrect on every guide that talks about them.
For example, they literally talk.
I always thought they were cyborgs of some kind
Nah.
And somehow "conditioned"
They're elite Stormtroopers used to protect VIPs as a part of the Tarkin Initiative.
they’re enhanced and conditioned yeah, only the Thrawn trooper in Peridea are zombies
I remember a snippet from a novel or something where a regular soldiers sees the Death Troopers without their armor and says they behave weird, like their eyes are empty
Or something like that
fascism moment tbf
When you hit levels of fascism the galaxy didn't think were possible
Wookieepedia says they're ISB, not Tarkin. Which is probably right. But if this was said, it's in something I've never seen. Probably Rebels or some shit.
I mean Krennic was also part of the ISB
So it makes sense
And every depiction afterwards has been mostly true to that
Oh, never mind. It says ISB in the Rogue One book. The page I showed you.
Good thing I can't read
Yes I am aware
You said you can't read.
Prove it.
How do you want me to prove it?
That's for you to decide and for me to judge.
Also, fine you caught me, I can read
Well yes, but you see, all the stuff you post here makes me want to not be able to read
Hurtful.
Sorry
Intelligence, not ISB
What
Wookiepedia states they’re under Intelligence
Don't make me get my belt.
OwO
Rude.
Your crimes against the state and common decency are innumerable and interminable
that’s so mean
If I die cause I gambled on love, it will be a worthy death.
Sorry, beaten to it :3
🤔
rest in pieces 😔
The honest trailer and pitch meeting for this show were are so good
I don't mind those channels, because you know what you're getting going in.
Pitch Meetings Mando Series 3 was a good one. I particularly love that after mocking the Dr Pershing side-story, Ryan then does a 5 minute side-story about the Producers' intern going to get them coffee, which accounts for probably about 50% of the episodes run-time.
But I don't think anyone holds a candle to Auralnauts and AFK in terms of Youtube Starwars goof-content, although Charlie Hopkinson's (where its mostly Anakin, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan sitting on the couch commenting on the various new shows/rewatching the old movies) impressions channel is sneaking up the list.
