I'm planning to write a humorous article about users who are obliviously cheating, maybe I'll call it cheater of the month 😁
Some games are just rather funny (for example when both players are using engines..) and some even slip through the Lichess detection like this one who is in the Top 10% Rapid players but barely manages to not blunder all pieces in Bullet.
Is that okay or would that be against the Lichess terms? I would only publish the account names when these are not "real names". Is that okay? Or should I not mention any names? That would not fit the format that well, though...

Best, Thomas

You can't mention user names or real names in anything like this, it would count as public shaming and it would be against lichess ToS.

Well, sharing games already reveal the names..

If you think someone is cheating then just report them

Report

Spotted someone who you think is cheating or otherwise being abusive? Let us know with https://lichess.org/report

You will not get a faster service by contacting admins on Discord or Lichess private messages.
Do not publicly shame other users on Discord or on Lichess.
We will not discuss actions taken because of reports.

All reports are processed as soon as possible. If it has been over 48 hours and nothing visible has happened, it is possible that either no evidence of misbehaviour was found, there was insufficient evidence to take action at the time, or that actions taken are not visible to the public (such as private warnings or communications bans). Regardless of actions taken, thank you for your vigilance and interest in keeping Lichess a nice place to play.

Humor is very difficult in a written format.
Extreme rating/skill diff. like this is also often due to two people playing on the same account. Like a parnat/kid. Pick the "wrong" winner and you end up making fun of a 6 year old child.

So there ends up being many reasons, that in sum makes it very hard to breach a topic like this. A blog that is more about the data points does work ( ie . https://lichess.org/@/justaz/blog/exact-ratings-for-everyone-on-lichess/klIoAEAU )

I see, that's a pity. I'll report that dude πŸ‘

#

Was thinking of it as a "anti-game of the month" basically 😁 But I see the problems with it..

#

Even if the account is already banned, I cannot show the games? πŸ€”

#

Like when the profile page says "No such player" and in the Lichess Database the games are even [Termination "Rules infraction"]

#

Nevermind, I was just thinking of how to make this work, but I guess it's too hard to make it work without names or even games at all...

#

As this format probably will never land, let me share my "award goes to" image here, maybe it brightens someones day..

That would take half of the fun away, no? I won't even have the play times which are sometimes also fun to see when players take the same exact amount of time for each move...

If you think it's fun to publicly shame people then perhaps you need to take another look at the terms of service and community guidelines

By actual names, do you mean the person's real name? Or actual usernames?

naive hemlock
#

Not sure I understand your question, what do you mean by "actual username"? I mean the username was for example "bot12345".
But does not really matter, I don't think this is doable in practice...

dense geyser
#

Am I to understand that you wanted to show the Lichess usernames in your piece?

#

As opposed to their legal name like John Smith or something

naive hemlock
#

Yes πŸ‘

#

If the account name was for example "JonSmithTheChessPlayer" I also wouldn't show it as it contains a real name.

#

Maybe to share where I'm coming from... While doing data analysis on Lichess games I wanted to track the accounts with the "biggest jump" in rating in a month. Guess what you find? A bunch of cheaters that went from 800 to 2200...
Now the funny thing about it is just how obvious some of these accounts cheated (literally winning every single game or requiring the same time for every single move) and somehow even went undetected by Lichess.
I thought, well that's actually quite an achievement in itself and thought, maybe others would find it funny, too...

Ok well just to be clear, showing the Lichess usernames, even if they aren't related to a "real name" in this case would likely still count as public shaming so I would advise against that.

#

The best thing you can do if you think you can find cheaters is to report them and let the trained and experienced cheat detection moderators deal with it. Without publicly naming the users.

Yeah, the format wasn't really well-thought-out yet.. 😁 Wanted to check with you guys first...

It’s a different platform but i am pretty sure that pogchamp guy just won this for the year jebaited

#

I think those are the cases where a blog does work through - since there is legitimate news value imo anyway.

As a streamer it is normal to also have your stream on another monitor so you can see what you are broadcasting to the world and if it all looks ok etc, but you don't have the engine on that or anywhere for that matter catfacepalm
