When you take the pawn and he takes your queen, then if you take his knight on f6 with your pawn, you check him with your bishop and he has to defend that check, and then you just take his queen

that is correct but OP is asking about the position after the puzzle ends. black will take whites rook on d1 after the puzzle sequence, so its not immediately clear why its winning. only after following the engine suggested lines, then it becomes more clear why white is winning after that whole sequence
