Okay, the launcher pops up and says "something went terribly wrong"
Im unable to interact with the window outside of task manager

Well, given the rather indeterminate circumstances, I'd probably just reinstall the launcher and restart pc for good measure and see if that helps? Something may have gone awry during an update.
If you continue to have difficulties, please follow up with as much information as you can, such as any visible error codes or any recent changes to the PC or any other programs running at the time, in the case that this issue may be replicated for further investigation.
