Help with Ice Spear Dan 2 Test

I'm having an impossible time trying to pass this test even once at S rank. I've had nowhere near this much problem with my other spells. The closest I've gotten is 8,500 points. I know about the elemental crystals. The big problem I have is the golems killing me. I saw a tip that said to spam one charge of Ice Spear to essentially stun lock them, but that doesn't seem to consistently work. There's always a golem that manages break free and rush me to get in a hit before I can stop casting and load counter. 2-3 hits and I'm dead losing another 2k points. I'm not sure if my timing is just off and I'm spamming too fast or not fast enough or what. Any advice on how to either keep the golems from hitting me or on how to actually do more damage with ice spear while under the massive nerf the test gives you would be appreciated.

So Ice Spear is a weird one, the goal is to not kill things.
The strat is to choose the ice element to maximize the number of 3+ hits of Spear you can do on enemies, because that's where a lot of the points come from.
Don't snap cast either, just go in (Spellwalk is good) and just line up 3+ enemies in a line and hit them

If you do it right you won't see Golem and get that SS rank during the big ice elemental wave
