Fatal error: [File:Unknown] [Line: 198] Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x887A0006 - 'HUNG')
https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-the-error-unreal-engine-is-exiting-due-to-d3d-device-being-lost/
Check the steps here, as it's likely an issue with your device drivers
You can also check the instructions in this message: #mordhau_tech_support_archive message
i have already done the first tutorial, however the second one says that there would be a "preferred graphics processor" dropdown but it is not there (I only have one gpu, not even integrated graphics)
I also have updated all my drivers
Did it ever run decently?
You could try the hard reset post, then turn down rag dolls and cloth physics
Generally they can cause some crashes
Link to hard reset
It did run decently. I will reset the stuff now.
Log 1: I will play test now to see if any problems arise.
Crashed after 1 min
Same error msg
Log 2: I have just verified and I am going to try again...
lmao just crashed again (in game)
Log 3: I have closed host.exe which hogs up my GPU usage. I will try again...
Same error msg. Crashed after abt 10 mins this time. No further testing will be conducted.
help?
<@&683414188840058978>
<@&683414188840058978> I have gotten a new error (along with the existing one): Fatal error: [File:Unknown] [Line: 671] Parent->GetDevice()->CreateHeap(&Desc, IID_PPV_ARGS(&D3DHeap)) failed at C:/UE4/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Allocation.cpp:1775 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
<@&683414188840058978> pls help
have you tried the common stuff already, like checking your file integrity via steam?
Please don't ping multiple times
Also worth re-seating your graphics card, and ensuring there is no dust built up in the socket.
This is 100% an issue with your graphics card or related driver.
@wet veldt I have tens of times. That is def not the problem tho.
@burnt egret I have already updated my drivers (Nvidia and display). I will check my hardware
is your hardware overclocked at all? If so, that may be a cause here too
For my CPU, no. My RAM, possibly. I have msi afterburner for my gpu. I typically overlock my gpu until i experienced crashes in mordhau (a new game to me) in which i turned off overclocking after following tutorials and even tried underclocking. However it still crashed. I don't overclock gpu through bios, only ram sometimes
The two errors you've gotten so far, are very specific in saying it's an issue with the GPU in some way, either through DirectX, through your GPU Drivers, or through how Windows is interacting with those devices/drivers.
Just in case you need to know my specs: AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT (CPU), RTX 3060 (GPU got on Christmas 2021), ram is an obscure brand the I have forgotten, but is 3600mhz 32gb ddr4
After looking at tutorials, I added "-dx12" to the steam startup settings. Is that bad?
You can certainly try removing it to see, but I doubt that's the issue
Ok
No it's not a problem with the seating. My Nvidia driver and my display adapter driver in device manager is also updated already.
Something is causing your system to lose connectivity to your graphics card. It's going to be difficult to pinpoint exactly what. But your drivers may not just need to be updated, if your drivers are corrupt but "up to date", trying to update them isn't going to change anything. You may need to try uninstalling your driver and then reinstall the base Windows device driver and try again, you may need to roll back your GPU driver to an older version.
Something could be overheating, or not getting enough power.
how do i do the reinstall base windows device driver thing
Wait. Game jjust crashed again: Fatal error: [File:Unknown] [Line: 1214] GameThread timed out waiting for RenderThread after 120.00 sec
These are all likely the same related issues
that error also suggests an issue with the GPU being unavailable/hanging
how do i uninstall the driver
Go into device manager, Uninstall the device, then restart Windows and let it reinstall a default driver.
You can test it with the Windows driver, see if it continues
ight ima try that
you may need to use something like DDU https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html to fully remove all remnants of the old Nvidia drivers.
Here you can Download Display Driver Uninstaller, this Display Driver Uninstaller is a driver removal utility that can help you completely uninstall AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers and packages from your system, with...
because Windows often doesn't remove everything
once it's uninstalled, you can try reinstalling the Nvidia drivers again
which options for "NVIDIA Specific Options" should i pick to remove.
There is "C\NIVIDIA", "PhysX", "3DTV Play", "GFE", "NVIDIA Broadcast" and "DCG driver"
Also, should i use "Safe Mode"?
Safe mode will restart you into Window's Safe Mode, which might be necessary if it Windows complains about removing protected/in use files.
You can select all of these, as when you reinstall the Nvidia drivers it will reinstall all of them
Ok
I followed a tutorial and did everything (indian people are very helpful).
I will test now with default driver
It just froze again and crashed
i verified and am trying again
Original error. Game crashed after 10 mins of horde
@burnt egret I just played a game of horde and half a game for Invasion and then it crashed
are you able to monitor your GPU temperatures/voltages? was it getting overheated at all?
This is after installing Nvidia drivers and rolling back to 2nd newest one.
Not overheating at all
I'll monitor voltage tho rq
I'm not really sure what else to suggest at this stage.
since you've tried all the suggestions and it's not those.
Does the surge in power on afterburner have something to do with it?
the two images you sent, had both voltages displaying as Zero
copy here for anyone else wanting to try to help here
Oh I was looking at the mhz my b
Same for me, prob just a bug from MSI Afterburner
you got any thoughts Melon, i'm out of ideas right now
I mean, he mentioned some host.exe process using a lot of his GPU, but he deleted that again. I guess that means it's not the problem?
should probably stop killing any process that you're always killing
Ye, but a host.exe process taking a lot of gpu doesn't sound quite normal, right?
we'd need to know more about it
but certainly if there's something else going on, with this process, it's unlikely to be unrelated
Well, I'd like to add that the closing of the task of host.exe does add a few frames, but I tried leaving it on and it still crashed
And ending it gave me more fps in fortnite
You obviously shouldn't kill any system processes, though.
Ight. I will do further testing without killing host
are you sure that's not malware of some kind?
that doesn't sound like it should be doing that, that name of process is very high risk for malware
That's what I thought, don't want to say it actually is just yet tho
I could always scan it. I'd like to add that resting temps when it isn't disabled is 65c and climbing, while with it disabled keeps it in the 40s
The host process?
Yes
Well, that kinda does sound like malware
I'm scanning now
In task manager, there is Host Process for Windows Tasks (2 of them, not hogging gpu), and host.exe (hogging gpu). Gpu temp is now 71 and I'm sweating irl. Scan almost done
Ye, I have the host process for windows aswell, no host.exe, tho
shit
What happens when you press open file path?
ill dm u
i cant find my screenshots lmao. these files from the host.exe folder (the folder it was in is called "Windows") sound sus: cpu.bat, host.exe, lolMiner.cfg, p2.vbs, p2p.bat, p2pclient.exe, and start.vbs
Prob a BTC or ETH miner then
jesus lmao. ight
yup. 8 different btc and crypto miners came up on malwarebytes
and host.exe is my highest power usage
Lol, sorry, should've told you my suspicion a bit earlier
not a prob bro. does this mean that it is fixed?
No idea how to handle miners, the safest way would be to reinstall Windows from the ground up. Could just observe if anything suspicious is happening in the task manager and run a few more AV scans.
wait "Website blocked due to riskware" just popped up. went away too quick to see but "eth" was in the url
Popped up after doing what exactly?
after deleting the quarantined items after my restart of my pc and opening google
Just go with the clean reinstall then, just to be on the safe side
will that delete everything?
Yes
should i backup on a thumbdrive or chose "keep my files"
Delete everything, if possible
what abt my mordhau loadouts. that shit finna take too long to replace
I guess you can back those up, yeah
Guy really has a miner on his PC, and he still worries about losing his mercs, lmao. Pure chad energy
Cloud is better when you want to get rid of malware
should i clean data and/or delete files from all drives?
Ye, delete everything
windows reinstalled
new error Fatal error: [File:Unknown] [Line: 198] Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x887A0005 - 'REMOVED')
did you ever post the actual log
alot of the time, the crash log will say its lost gpu, but it happens for all sorts of reasons
generally the actual game log will have more info
Sry for late response. I can post it tomorrow afternoon est
But are u sure it's my gpu. It's a 3060 and I haven't even had it fir a year. I don't believe afterburner could kill it in 10 months
I mean, you did a full reinstall of windows without keeping any of your files, and the problem still persuades. I wouldn't know what else could cause the problem except your hardware.
Maybe it was the miner which constantly had it under heavy load, I've been using Afterburner since I got my PC back in 2020.
You cold, as Geached suggested, post your log in here.
<@&683414188840058978> what does that mean
its a gpu related crash
what the actual issue is, no idea
What I would try, is using DDU to uninstall your driver, make sure to clean shader cache too
then install fresh driver
If you're having trouble uninstalling, removing or deleting your old video card drivers or having trouble installing drivers for a new graphics card? Then DDU may be able to help. This video is a step by step tutorial showing where to download Display Driver Uninstaller, how to install it to your PC and how to use DDU to uninstall your old Dis...
DDU is what all the pc gaming youtubers use to sure drivers are fresh etc
He reinstalled Windows without keeping any of his files, I highly doubt it's anything on the software-side now @worn tapir
He's also previously tried to use DDU
If all possible software-related solutions have been tried, all that remains is to consider there is a hardware fault of some kind
@terse flume do you still have warranty on your GPU by any chance?
I have no clue. I purchased it off of Amazon.
Do you think the ssd could be a problem?
Don't think so, no
did you run a stress test btw
how did you reinstall your windows? did you use a usb disk/cd or did you use the built-in recovery?
having the same issue, reinstalled my drivers n everything
#1028699557430824980 message
your gpu is timing out
try that
really this could be many things
All I see is #unknown
try that
actually Ill paste it here
In many instances your game settings can become corrupted or be set incorrectly, and may cause performance issues or crashes. These files are not removed when you uninstall and reinstall the game, and aren't fixed by verifying your files in Steam.
The best course of action for any new issue you are having regarding performance, or other strange issues, is to reset these files so that the game generates them from scratch, clearing any incorrect settings and starting from a blank slate.
Instructions
Before performing these steps, you should back up your Game.ini and Input.ini file, located in %localappdata%\Mordhau\Saved\Config\WindowsClient. Game.ini contains your loadouts and Input.ini contains your keybinds, which sometimes can't be restored after deleting these files.
To hard reset your settings, you can delete these two folders shown below, called Intermediate and Saved. If you cannot find them, you will need to enable "show hidden files and folders" in Windows, or open Run (Windows key + R), paste this command %localappdata%\Mordhau and then hit enter.
Deleting these two folders will completely reset your game preferences, so take care to remember important settings. If you cannot locate these app data, or these files, you will need to enable the setting "show hidden files and folders" as most users have these types of folders hidden by default.

after deleting those folders do I put my settings back (the backup I made) into that folder im assuming?
still having the same issue
