Feedback

After coming back to Toria after a couple months this was my feedback on the first Rustoria Us premium long wipe.

Hosting

• one of the major changes I noticed, Rustoria upped their hosting recently. One thing we did notice was a couple AU/EU guys had MAJOR ping issues on the server, for some reason the server routing was absolutely ruthless for them.

Maps

• I praise rustoria on their maps, one thing I will always give them credit for on. They did a great job with map generation/ over all fos this last wipe. Evenly distributed monuments, although the jungle is definitely tough on spawn beach, but not sure what they can do about that.

Bp wipe

-Look into changing bp wipes, the direction the game is going people don’t really want to grind bps anymore. Moose highly benefits from it in terms of pop. After playing rustoria long the server was dead after sunday. Teams, solos, groups all benefit from no bp wipe. No one wants to be the BP slave learning/crafting all day.

UI change

• Adjusting team UI size on medium/ long these servers are inherently “clan servers” and are mainly played by big teams/ clan. With that said the UI should reflect that, and may even bring more teams to play.

Hackers

• I appreciate the hard work of a lot of the staff members, and I think they did their best. ( this is not a slight to anyone, rather me voicing my team, plethora of other players, and I problems this wipe) not sure if it was because it was a new server, but this was some of the most cheaters I’ve encountered in a wipe for awhile. It wasn’t just closet cheaters, it was blatent cheater accounts showing up under 1k hours.
  Server was advertised as “cheater free” and it had a significant issue with it.

I will be playing medium, and giving it another shot to see if it’s any better. I know my opinion doesn’t matter much, but felt playing on Toria for as long as I have with a large team I should voice my thoughts on wipe.

• I'd recommend to the map makers, if possible, try to put the stone quarry in the desert or grassland every wipe when creating the map vote, when stone quarry is in the snow, no one uses it, but every time its in the grass or desert, there's always a contest between players for it.

• It also seems like the AU Premium server was a total bust, I've seen it not get much attention at all, I feel its better to shut it down then let it keep collecting dust

• It could be a good idea to start bringing back those Rustoria ads in content creators videos. I remember seeing those around 2-3 years ago. During the time I saw that Rustoria ad in videos, Rustoria was doing really well and always had a big queue on most servers.

• I know its been a while, but if Rustoria thinks about making some changes like team UI changes on certain servers ect, you could bring back the vote in the Rustoria discord for those changes, this will make the Rustoria community more interactive.

I mean there’s some truth to what they’re saying, this last medium wipe the guy with the most comp kills on the server was hard cheating his nuts off all wipe. It wasn’t just ONE person or team calling him out, it was nearly EVERY team. He’s still not banned to this day, and made nearly every team log.

Make Weekly Softcore Servers, Currently there are only monthly softcore servers accross official/community servers, there are no other alternatives currently. Official facepunch servers are also too big for the number of players. I also feel it could help softcore grow if people can just hop in on a new wipe weekly instead of waiting a month for a new one to happen.

In my 3000+ experience of hours in rust and yet over 4 years in every single vanilla server I've been it had 3 fishing villages but in you server " rustoria eu low pop" for first time I see it has only 2. Even tho I don't play in that server for first time and before it had 3 fishing villages. It just ruin the experience of your server like that and make it way more harder. It's been always 1 fishing village in the green part of the map, 1 in the winter part of the map and 1 in the desert. As simple as that and now you make it harder for us to enjoy the game.

The AU server was changed to medium on force - unfortunately we're restricted to the available hardware and network infrastructure in that region, and the ideal setups that we employ elsewhere just don't exist there sadly. Always on the look out for better solutions however, doing the best we can. 🙂

It means that the available hosts, hardware and network infrastructure in this region is limited, and not up to the same standard as our other regions - not a question of money, and as ctv said in their announcement, we don’t have a lot of choice when it comes to hosting here. The issue we are facing is network related, changing the wipe schedule wouldn’t have any meaningful impact, on hardware or network related issues like this either way. We are using the absolute best available everything, but yeah, we’re limited sadly.

I understand your reasoning. However, if we ban this player for the reasons you say, then what happens if someone else comes along and starts offlining everyone? It's not a good precedent to set because we can't ban everyone for offlining. In order to keep things fair for everyone, we set rules in place and moderate the people who break those rules.

Also, I remember your suggestion to have offline protection on the server for a certain period of time. If I'm not mistaken, I believe there were other teams who said that the time you suggested was around the same time that they would usually be active.
I'm not sure if we would implement offline protection and the decision wouldn't be up to me, but it sounds like it could be a good solution if there was a time period everyone agreed on for it.

Foundation limit:
farmbot teams are farming millions of metal to build huge unraidable boxes, ruining raiding and generally makes it sad. You dont need a major limit on foundations but 200-250 would be a good place.

Don't wipe BP's on all Rustoria.co "Main" servers. Most competitive players typically go long/monthly on force and wiping BP's on Main servers discourages players from hoping on as they do not retain their BPs. It can be very annoying to farm blueprints for several hours just to play a different server mid-month.

There has been a trend of other official servers moving away from BP wipes and it has been successful for them, so I ask to please consider this change.

Just because "other servers do it" doesn't make it a good idea and that Rustoria should blindly follow what other servers do. You have to understand that there are groups of players that enjoy BP wipes and taking that away would alienate a portion of the playerbase even if its on the smaller side. If you really want a non-bp wipe server, just play on one that doesnt wipe--there are lots to choose from. Why try to brute force every single server to never wipe bps at the expense of those that enjoy bp wipes? Having both options available is a healthy way for the server host to try to accommodate everybody and be inclusive

I follow EU Medium and EU Long servers. I thought about going to wipe where I like the map more, because it's important to me.

But there's no ranch anywhere.... It's very important to me, because my whole gameplay revolves around it.

I'm subscribed to your TikTok and I know that the ranch is in the outpost. But I don't want to live next to it. There are a lot of people, solo is very difficult, and the FPS is always lower than anywhere else on the map.

My feedback - I don't like that you removed the ranch from the maps.

Hey, thanks for raising your concerns.

Just for some context behind its removal; it was interfering with other monument spawns. For example ranch would take up monument spawning space that would result in jungle monuments not spawning and other key t3 monuments. The sole reason we removed Ranch was because in testing, if we disabled ranch, we’d have much more success rates in spawning other key monuments needed for progression. So we merged it with outpost to create room.

I’ll raise this again internally despite ranch being inside of outpost now and see if any procedural generation changes are being made for the upcoming update that will increase the chances of key monument spawns. I know FP were planning fixing it, as this issue was introduced in the Jungle update. It was fine before.

When BR Main first came out the server pops were low, at the time the decision to make wipes at 6pm Brasilia made sense, launching any earlier meant servers wouldn't be full without a que.

Now the BR servers are in a **much ** healthier spot, with BR main breaking top 25 rust servers on battlemetrics. People from all countries of North and South America are playing weekly.

Now RTG, UKN and Aim train servers have hundreds of BR players waiting around every thursday from 4pm + waiting for BR main to wipe. The late 6pm Wipe doesn't make sense anymore, or at the very little should be tested again at an earlier time. ❤️

Hey FIXR, thanks for reaching out - for us it is never a question of cost, it is a question of quality - something which several regions, including the Middle East, have serious problems with unfortunately. When looking at expanding into a region, it's a combination of availability of top end hardware, networking and Rust specific protections - this is a difficult combination to find at a sufficient level outside of Europe and the US. We're not interested in throwing up a server that is doomed to perform badly due to sub-par hosting.

There are no current plans to open a server in this region, but we are aware that there are voices in the community that represent this region - you are not invisible. It's a case of "watch this space" for now, it may become suitable and appropriate to host a server there in the future. Couldn't say either way at present. 🙂

Interestingly yeah, the twice weekly wipe was a big factor in its early popularity. It's a long road here no matter what changes we make, pop takes time to build organically back up - they had a rough run last summer. Force wipe will be the first litmus test 🙂

twice weekly is fun, the community 2x had was amazing a few months back were a solid 50-100 people would talk in chat and everyone actually knew eachother, i sank at least 400 hours in it as my main for a while, i just think its nice to feel like rebuilding if you get raided by rival groups, twice weekly wipe is good for a small pvp focused server though

didnt help the pop when random 15 man clans started playing and offlining everyone but nothing anyone can do about that 🤣

I still personally think it was a good idea to do it - the players voted it in, it's a bit of fun for the 5th wipe, will it have the same pop longevity as a normal map? No, we knew that going in, but it's a break from the usual, it's a short wipe before force for the medium servers, and not something we plan on putting in the map votes consistently

Tbf US main is wrongly named, it's more NA main, but for historical reasons it's named US, therefore there are a large amount of language expected to be spoken on it, including spanish, french, english, and a lot of others specific to the islands around there or some way more specific language like inuit, ... at the end of the day it's as diversified or even more diversified than EU for instance

Some russian players are actually closer to the US server than from "their own" eu east server

We have servers in more than just those two regions, we also have AU/SEA, EU East, and BR. Players shouldn't feel limited to looking for teammates only in one region, many play in regions that are not the closest to them anyways.

Have you considered moving East Long to Poland?
That would give most players a stable and much lower ping, plus it’s possible to rent a server there with strong hardware, not the underpowered setup we seem to have now.

The first two weeks of last month everything was fine, but now it’s just terrible – constant lag and spikes.
A location change + proper hardware could fix most of these problems.

We have the highest hardware possible currently, also in term of regional location it would make less sense as it would be more in concurence with the EU servers

I get that you’re looking at it from the admin perspective, but from the players’ side the problem is very different.
Right now many players are getting rubberbanded due to severe packet loss — and this happens to everyone who’s not in Russia.

If this server is mainly targeted at Russian players, then sure, it might fit that purpose — but even they are reporting lag and unstable FPS.
That means the problem affects everyone, not just a small group, and it’s killing the gameplay experience.

I don’t know what exact hardware the server runs on — I’m just talking about the fact that with 600+ players online, it simply doesn’t work correctly.
That means either the hardware isn’t enough, or it’s not running at full capacity.

I cant tell you that it is something that is in the plans for the near future, but that doesn't mean it'll never happen either. We are always looking at new servers where possible and we would put this in #announcements if ever did so keep an eye out!

You're asking an admin, so the answer will of course be biased and not from a player perspective. I honestly can't give you a good answer, once we determine someone is cheating they are removed, so you may see a decent amount of bans coming through, but not as many as on the higher pop servers. I'd suggest asking in #general or asking people you know to get a better answer from a player's perspective.

2x scene is so much more fun then any other type of server imo
a 2x monthly quad and a 2x monthly main servers would be class imo

Sorry, but I was very upset. The maps in BR have been rubbish for a long time. It seems like they are giving preference to the clans that take the snow. Plus, they never ban cheaters.

also the snow is way less powerfull now, gras/desert tend to have more nodes sicne there are more rock formations now
