It sucks to be caught up in something like that, can seem unfair at first thought but if you invited this player to play with you to try and find someone new and they were cheating, then a playing with cheater ban would be correct. Who you choose to invite is entirely up to you and you should definitely only invite those who you can trust to avoid this kind of issue.
