Stupendous Steve
Day 4. Didn't get much done on the game today, but I made the title screen and a menu (menu design may change in the future).
Day 5. You can now shoot fireballs (provided you find a fireball item - same as in Dangerous Dave where you need to find a gun before you can shoot at enemies).
Day 6. Some of the treasures now have proper sprites.
Day 7. Player object now has sprites! (they still need work tho.) Also a few monsters have been implemented.
Day 8. Wasn't able to do as much work on the game as I would've liked, however I've started implementing disappearing blocks (the gray block) and the mystery score pickup (the circle with a question mark in it).
Day 9. Did some more work on Level 4, started work on level 5, and created sprites for a few more enemies. Also put in a new HUD, which was used in a cancelled game, but modified a little.
Day 10. Level 5 created, a few more enemies have begun being implemented into the game, as well as losing life and game over states, and extra life score thresholds. I've also decided to ditch Dangerous Dave's shifting camera because I was struggling designing levels around that.
Day 11. Started work on Level 6, but apart from that nothing to add. No screenshot today.
Day 12 - continued work on Level 6. Decided to colour the background tiles, giving them a gradient effect (haven't finished it yet as one can see).
Day 13 - Continued work on Level 6, as well as done more implementation on one of the enemies. No screenshot today.
Day 14 - Level 6 is pretty much done. Still need to fix the code for the disappearing platforms and one of the enemies (as well as the sprite for when you collect the fireball powerup).
Day 15 - no work on it done today, though I've come up with a couple ideas for the graphics for Area 3. Here's the BGM for it.
Day 16 - started work on level 7 as well as the graphics for Area 3.
Day 17 - completed Level 8 and started work on Level 9. Also completed the music for Area 4.
Day 18 - continued work on Level 9, as well as one or two other things.
Day 19 - Started sketching out some graphics ideas for Area 4. No screenshot today.
Day 20 - Started work on level 10 as well as making graphics for Area 4. No screenshot today.
Day 21 - Did a little more work on level 10. Again, no screenshot today.
Day 22 - no work on it done today.
Day 23 - Completed the layout for Level 10. No screenshot today.
Day 24 - Level 10 is pretty much done, still a few tweaks to do tho.
Day 25 - Created Level 11 as well as some extra decorations for Area 2.
Day 26 - Worked on Level 12, as well as introductory text for each area. No screenshot today.
Day 27 - Level 12 done. Also created the BGM for Area 1.
Day 28 - Started work on the art assets for Area 5.
Day 29 - Started work on Level 13, as well as added in some extra decorations fot Area 2.
Day 30 - worked on Levels 14 and 15, and begun work on the first bonus level.
Day 31 - didn't do much work on it today, was busy with other stuff.
Day 32 - fixed a small bug in one of the enemy's code, as well as improved some of the graphics on Levels 4 and 5 (seen here with the different coloured tiles).
Day 33 - added more colouring effects to levels 5 and 6.
Day 34 - improved on the graphics for Area 3, as well as begun implementing a new enemy and an extra life pickup. I've also decided to cut the bonus levels from the game.
Day 35 - tweaked a few levels as well as fixed some of a flying enemy's code. I've also coloured some of the tiled wall graphics for Level 5.
Day 36 - coloured some more of Area 2's tiles.
Day 37 - Some more general polish. Fixed the sprites of the key and the fireball that appear in the HUD when you collect the respective pickups, as well as the code for the mystery score pickup and a few other things.
Day 38 - little more polish done today. Also fixed a bug last night.
Day 39 - Little more graphical and level polish done. Also beefed up the point values to give the score a more stupendous feel, while increasing the score-for-extra-life requirement to compensate.
Day 40 - Created the background for Area 5, changed the disappearing platform animation, as well as a little more polish.
Day 41 - worked on Level 15. Also C A P

Day 43. Not much done today apart from fix a bug that was causing an enemy to get stuck, as well as another small issue. No picture today.
Day 44. Did a fair bit today. Created the level transition effect as well as an introductory section for when the player enters a new area, made a new game over screen, created a few more sound effects, and improved on the music for the 1st area.
Day 45. Implemented the sound and music into the game. It's starting to become more of a viable product now. 🙂
Day 46. No work on it done today - took a break for the day.
Day 47. No work on it done today - another day off.
Day 48. Still on break from the game.
Day 49. Made a to-do list of what's left to be done.
Day 50. Created the sprites for when the player picks up the treasures, fireball, and key.
Day 51. Minor polishing done.
Day 52. Added the objects for when the player picks up the spheres, gems, and cash bags.
Day 53. Didn’t work on it today. Wasn’t in the mood.
Day 54. Some tweaking done in one of the levels.
Day 55. Little bit of tweaking done in a one of the levels.
Day 56. Did a little more tweaking and started sketching out what the new menu screen will look like.
Day 57. Tweaked a few of the levels and fixed a bug with one of the enemies.
Day 58. Little more tweaking done. Also finished a sketch of Steve to be used in the new menu.
Day 59. Started work on the new menu screen.
Day 60. Nothing done today.

Day 62. Wrote a to-do list for the final 10% of working on Steve.
Day 63. Main menu has been given a new look.
Day 64. Started implementing the high score function.
Day 65. High score functionality has been implemented.
Day 66. Some minor tweaking done in a few of the levels.
Day 67. Took a break from it today.
Day 68. Created backgrounds for the Instruction and Story screens.
Day 69 (NOICE). Implemented new backgrounds for the instruction and story screens, added a transition for the game over screen, created a new cap sprite, and made a small tweak to level 2.
Day 70. Added the new cap sprite, and started sketching out some new decorations for Area 5.
Day 71. Created and implemented some new decoration graphics for Area 5.
Day 72. No work done on it today. Wasn't feeling up to it.
Day 73. Again, no work done on it today.
Day 74. Created a few more pieces of art for the game.
Day 75 - finished making some more art for the game.
Day 76 - created some new decorations for Area 5.
Day 77 - made a few more new decorations for Area 5.
Day 78. Begun implementing new decorations for Area 5.
Day 79. Nothing done on it today.
Day 80. Began improving the instruction screens.
Day 81. Nothing done on it today.
Day 82. Have begun redoing the instruction screens so they're not just walls of text.
Day 83 - slight work on the instruction screen.
Day 84 - made some changes to level 15 and created a new background for Area 4.
Day 85. Some tweaking done in Area 4's levels.
Day 86. Began work on a new background for Area 1.
Day 87. Decided to stick with text blocks for the instruction screen, but attempting to simplify it a little. Controls sections has been changed to accomodate for the possible new control setting.
Day 88. Continued work on the new instruction screen.
Day 89 - same as yesterday. Here's a preview of the first page.
Day 90 - when you begin a new game you'll be prompted to select a control setting of your choice.
Day 91. WADSpace controls have been implemented. Control scheme selection screen has been changed a little - both control schemes have names (Default and WADSpace), and you can also cancel if you feel you've selected the wrong control setting.
Day 92. Improved on the background for Area 3, and made some improvements to the code for the level number on the HUD.
Day 93. Yesterday work begun on implementing the pause function. Today a minor tweak was done to Level 5.
Day 94. Nothing done on it today.
Day 95. Pause screen has been fully implemented, and some tweaks were done on the level intro screen.
Day 96. More work done on the instruction screens.
Day 97. Nothing done on it today, though hopefully I'll be able to get plenty done during the upcoming long weekend.
Day 98 - Created new backgrounds for Areas 1 and 2, and some tweaking was done on Level 3.
Day 99. New background created for Area 5, some levels were tweaked, and a little tweaking was done on the instruction screens.
Day 100. Improved the instruction screens and tweaked a few of the levels. Also came up with the idea of a new area intro screen - a crude map drawn by the game's antagonist.
Day 101. Made some changes to level 15, and added a few new sprites, one of which is a brief congratulatory message you get when you find Steve's cap.
Day 102. Very minor tweak done with two of the enemies - the sfx for when a fireball hits an enemy now plays when they collide with it.
Day 103. Nothing done on it today.
Day 104 and 105 - no work done on it, taking a break.
Day 106 (it would be day 110 but I was on break those days so I don't count those.) Another item checked off on the to-do list - the code for when the flying enemy shoots at the player has been fixed up.
Day 107. Nothing done on it today.
Day 108. Again, nothing done on it today.
Day 109. Started sketching out some ideas for the story and ending screens.
Day 110. Did a little more work on the story screen idea sketches.
Day 111. Fixed the sound and music volume imbalance as well as made a few tweaks. Also toying with the idea of having Erin give the player different messages to the player on the Game Over screen, depending on what area the player had reached up to at that point.
Day 112. Made a small tweak.
Day 113. Nothing done on it today. Hopefully I’ll be able to get more of it done during the Easter long weekend.
Day 114. Nothing done on it today.
Day 115. Did a little more work on the sketches for the story screens.
Day 116. Did some more work on the sketches.
Day 117. Was busy today so I didn't get time to work on it.
Day 118. Finished sketching out the story screen pics.
Day 119. Continued work on sketching the pic for the 2nd page of the game's ending screen.
Day 120. Finished the sketch for the 2nd page of the game’s ending screen, and started work on a new game over screen.
Day 121. Finished work on the new game over screen and have begun implementing it into the game.

Day 129. Story screen pictures are in the game. Have begun making the code for the story screens. Also reduced the bright ness of the Instruction Screen background for better contrast.
Day 130. Begun work on the Story Screen.
Day 131. First ending screen picture is complete.
Day 132. Some tweaking done to the story screens and the story text, and began work on the 2nd ending screen picture.
Day 133. Made a few tweaks to one of the story screen pictures and continued work on the 2nd ending screen pic.
Day 134. Did a little more work on the 2nd ending screen picture.
Day 135. Little more work done on the 2nd ending screen picture, and began work on the background for the 3rd one.
Day 136. Some more work on the 2nd ending screen, background for the 3rd screen is done, plus the text for all three screens is written.
Day 137. 2nd ending screen pic is almost done.
Day 138. Ending screen pictures are in the game. Now the code for the ending sequence needs to be done. Also edited one of the story screen pictures.
Day 139. Ending sequence is done. Also added credits to the instruction screen.
Day 140. Began work on improving the Steve sprite, unfortunately my tablet's bluetooth decided to shit itself so I need to get that fixed.
Day 141. Nothing done on it today.
Day 142. Nothing done on it today.
Day 143. Resumed work on improving the Steve sprite.
Day 144. Improved Steve sprites are in the game. Now I just need to add in some code so they display correctly (the sprites jitter when Steve is moving).
Day 145. Began work on correctly displaying the Steve sprites by using states (what sprite to use depending on whether the player is standing, moving, or jumping, and what direction they're facing).
Day 146. Made a few tweaks to the instructions controller object.
Day 147. No work done on it today. Ugh…
Day 148. Continued work on the code for displaying the Steve sprite, made a few changes to the level intro screens, fixed a bug where one of the songs wouldn't loop, and made a few cosmetic changes to one of the levels.
Day 149. Steve sprite coding is now complete for Default controls, still need to do the one for WADSPACE controls. Also made some changes to a few of the levels.

Day 150. Made a few changes to Level 13.
Day 151. More tweaking and polishing done to the levels.
Day 152. Completed the final testing version of the game for testers.
Day 153. I'll be taking a break from it for a few days.

Cool! Graphics aside, this could also be an 80's 8-bit game if the graphics were less good. I mention because I have a warm place in my heart for 8-bit, too.

Day 163. Began work on the new 3rd ending screen.
