#Looking to Contribute

I have been developing in Python for many years both academically, for my own stuff, and professionally. And I have a project idea recommendation to rewrite pip (Pythons package manager) in Rust. The app itself is basically a glorified zipping tools/file downloader so it shouldn't be hard. Additionally, pip works on in 1 thread so just that leaves a lot to be improved. With it being rewritten in Rust we could save thousands if not millions of hours for many different servers installing Python packages. So im looking for people that would like to help me with that project 😄 If you are interested @ me here 🙂
@woven topaz
would love to contribute to some web projects using actix, rocket, yew or similar
But Im not too picky as long as it doesnt require too much math
anyone here interested in contributing to lapce code editor?
https://github.com/lapce/lapce
looks nice
@finite estuary how do you guys deal with extensions?
can they be ported from vscode?
I haven't looked into it, that feature is added recently.
i mean the editor looks really good
could potentially be the perfect combination of vim and vscode
well yeah
looks very nice
is there some kind of official philosophy behind the project?
i can see there are some problems with fonts but sure thats not easy
@finite estuary how far in development is the project?
it's still in early stage.
i mean i would love to help this looks very promissing
i found some discord channel link in its readme
its an official one right?
Great!
im making a functional toolchain in Rust in my monorepo, wanna help?
@woven topaz I am interested, your idea seems attractable to me.
ok here is the monorepo: https://github.com/portal-co/portal and the project is in proj/fnvm
first, get bazelisk and bazel,. second, clone the repo. third, run sh ./b.sh run //:gen to generate some build files. fourth, to build FNVM, runsh ./b.sh build @fnvm//...
i hv a WIP compiler...
It uses LLVM(through inkwell)

Hi, I am a professional SDET(test automation engineer) with years of experience and working with python on a daily basis. I have been learning rust for a while(books, excercism, some simple actix-web), but still would see myself as a beginner to the rust language. I could start from the rust testing side potentially developing slowly some other things.
Looking to contribute to general projects dealing with data parsing/processing, encoding/decoding protocols, and general compiler-like functionality.

I am looking to contribute to open source projects and improve my rust skills. I am interested in Decentralized area .
Open source desktop, webpage and mobile app
In AUTODOX we are building a modern decentralized application with dfinity IC and all built with rust. The frontend is using YEW framework the desktop uses TAURI with surealDB and cloud backend using dfinity IC using rust (not motoko). This is probably a new way of building apps and it may help you to learn a lot. Also, I believe all websites and apps should be built in this way in the near future.

Hello. I'm Axis, been using Rust only for the past few months. I'd like to contribute to someone's repository, ideally still small but having adequate dedication from the owner, using my minimal Rust skills. While I may not be the best at Rust, I'm extremely communicable and cooperative when it comes to requesting changes. I'm highly familiarized with the standard GitHub workflow, and wouldn't face any issues in creates issues/PRs or modifying such.
I've worked with macroquad in the past. I'm open to any kind of project that could do with some contributions.
Hey I am looking to contribute to cyber security/pen-testing stuff
Hi all, I'd love to help with whatever project is available. Hey @fringe robin, did you find any?
Not yet XD
How about starting a new one? Just for learning purpose. I have a few ideas let me know if you are interested to discuss. I just want the tutorial hell to end now lol XD.
I’m working on something. See the embedded channel.
Maybe you can contribute to the crypto library I’m working on. It’s a fork of Wagyu with embedded support and more tokens. Would you be interested in helping me? @fringe robin @barren marsh
I’ve already started and will release a mostly complete base project soon
Hey @topaz otter, yeah I am interested in contributing.
That is great news, let me share the repo 🙂
If we release it as a public crate, you're welcome to be an owner if you contribute a reasonable amount
Or if you'd rather just do a couple minor tweaks, that's fine also.
Great, will see what can I do to help the project. Looking forward to it.
That's my Github User Name: zayn-kahn
Hello, I'm looking to contribute at anything (main interests are in machine learning/deep learning and embedded), I'm a beginner level at rust
@barren marsh Just wanted to mention that I'm very close to pushing out a base. It's taking longer than expected to bump the crate versions of Wagyu, and make it compatible with an embedded environment. I'm close to completion.
Look forward to using this in an awesome embedded rust project, which is a super secure hardware wallet I'm building. Will prepare a build guide to post on YT, which I imagine will attract quite a few stars.
Hello! Looking to contribute. Especially interested in networking, telemetry, and embedded!
Would you be interested in contributing to a large Rust crypto wallet library with support for a wide range of cryptocurrencies, that supports embedded systems? I’m forking Wagyu and close to releasing something useable (a starter)
I’m sorry! I don’t have a very large interest in crypto. But thanks for responding I appreciate it
Looking to contribute for the first time, I have been programming in rust for awhile now making projects. Interested in contributing to most projects
Not right now but I am going to be working on a rocket microcontroller and might need help with the firmware, would you be interested? I still need to solder the prototype though
Sure!
Here's the repo, probably going to be a week or two before I get started on the firmware https://github.com/Gip-Gip/msbaker
I'll message ya when I get some stuff done

Hello! I just started learning rust 3 months ago and built some rough projects in it... now looking to contribute to some real-world applications.
Hi, there! My name is Antonio, and I'm looking to contribute to a real-world Rust project. It doesn't matter what it is, exactly - I just want to help!

I think Clippy would be a good start (https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-clippy)
you can contribute to Cargo (https://github.com/rust-lang/cargo). It's a great tool but it has some major shortcomings and would be awesome if you could help solve them 🙂
Thank you so much! 😄
Hey guys, I'm looking for a project to contribute to that is approachable as someone who has never contributed to others' code before. I've been coding off and on for about 2-3 years but I've never really gotten past just doing CLI tools. I have no experience working with custom toolchains or build systems, but I'm open to learn.
I think a good place to start would be perhaps Clippy (https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-clippy)
Yeah Clippy looks interesting, well over 100 issues marked as "good-first-issue"
Looking to work on a video-related project
Would love to contribute a UI to a project that doesn't have one, but would want one... By UI I mean native, not web based.
Rust is missing retained-mode UI toolkits for others to create UI projects. Would be awesome if you create that kind of library
I am, sort of... https://github.com/limikael/appy However... It is a bit difficult to develop a library in isolation without a real world use case... So I'm looking for a use case
I think a word processor would be a use case, like LibreOffice / Only Office / Microsoft Word
Ah it would be... Maybe one with static site generation that can also publish on IPFS?
yeah I think that sounds like a good idea, at least on the surface. I'm not an expert in this area though so if you want to be certain then mb you can ask in #gui-and-ui about the details
Hey there! Was looking into contributing with opensource and I love Rust. Any tips for me? I do love working with OS stuff but have experience in Web networking and infrastructure.
hi, there is something a beginner can do? My experience is basically this web project in full rust https://github.com/fede183/rust-dive-travel-web
hello , looking to contribute i got some beg-intermediate level exp. any non web projects, I would prefer to contribute will help me learn a lot increase my exp .
Hi, looking to contribute to graphics / rendering, compiler, web backend, other low level stuff
How can I contribute when the stuff I can work on is so easy other people already take it and the ones that are available are too difficult for me?
Contribute to something which you already know something about, like if you use a external library all the time, why not check their repository and contribute to them since you already know a lot about it
Thanks for the advice. Although it's still a little difficutl cuz when I find something I can contribute with to a library is usually something so easy that there's already other people working on it :\
guess the only thing left for me is to keep improving and see later what I can do
Hey I'd love to contribute to projects related to network protocols and async rust
looking for contribution, subject related to c,c++,html, css, , if required i am happy to learn other skills for the project.
looking to contribute to some microservice or backend project
@celest spire this thread is for people to announce that they're looking for places to contribute, not for such places to advertise themselves
@coral cedar
The post clearly says this
People looking for contributors, feel free to message/ping the people in this post.
ah, I see! i misunderstood your post because of the long-winded explanation in the beginning and the (seemingly unrelated) pings at the end. Feel free to repost, but please keep it a bit shorter and within one message
No problem thanks
let me know if you need the names of the people pinged again
hey! I'd love to contribute to postgres-related stuff.
I am comfortable with some small things if you have a big project. Im looking for a project to grow with.
Hi! I'm new to open source, but I would be open to contribute to anything that looks interesting. Preferably something more long term that I could get accustomed to over time.
@devout elm @ocean pollen you could check Slirik, that project is long term and will grow time to time, currently its bit inactive since im working on a smart tap but when im finished with that i will develop Slirik further. It is a programming language designed for fast typing and programming newcomers. The source gets compiled into readable assembly/bytecode for education to lower level. Also it uses Java for the compiler and rust for the VM (Java because its easier to maintain parts of the source code in objects, sort them and compile. And Rust for the VM for the performance). https://github.com/MrMystery10-del/Slirik
We (just me for now) are looking for contribuitors for Toylang, the programming language for people who like fast compile times using multithreading, and the portability of bytecode, topped off with awesome syntax. We still need a lexer and more, so if you want to help: https://discord.gg/XbU5GU6Sv9

yeah, I meant like "ping specific people in this post". I think I should add an example to make it clearer, so thank you for the feedback c:

Open source RTMP server
Hi! I'm currently learning Rust and decided that learning networking was a good idea at the same time 🤷♂️ So I'm now making a server that will receive a stream from something like OBS and then make it available for people to watch on my upcoming website. but this has ended up being to much for me and my friend so we'd love some help with it 👉 👈

Hi, looking to contribute to general stuff, intermediate level
think its more of wanting to help out with very small and neiche projects rather than on the popular ones
Hey, looking to contribute! I'm a Node/TS dev trying to move away from pure web dev. So anything low-level/graphics/tcp/udp type things would be of most interested but not too picky. Beginner rust dev so far 🙂

Hi, I'm looking to contribute to any Rust-based DBMS.
Hey Rustaceans!
Not sure this is the appropriate channel for this, I'm sorry if it's not but we are organizing a Rust meetup in Paris on the evening of November 9th at 7:30 pm.
We are looking for passionate speakers to present at the meetup and share their knowledge or tips with the community. You can choose the topic you want, what you think interesting based on your own experience or examples you bumped into. There are just have a few requirements in terms of format:
-> 15-20mn real-life presentation with slides + 5-10mn of Q&A (no remote for now sorry)
-> Need to prepare yourself a few supporting slides on PowerPoint/GoogleSlides/Keynote (e.g. typically code screenshots)
-> Slides must be in English
-> Slides must be ready 10 days before the meetup and sent to the organization team. So before October 30th.
🦀 Who is in?? The event is all free of course, pizzas and beers included 🦀
@bright ingot @grave rapids since both of you specifically mentioned graphics, I wonder if you'd like to take a look at: https://github.com/clearlysid/cypher
I found the screen capture space lacking in the modern day dev-tooling especially now that we have newer OS-APIs like Apple's (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/screencapturekit/) and Windows' (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/uwp/api/windows.graphics.capture?view=winrt-22621)
I know the project is in a bit of a rough state (no readme, docs, etc.) but we can change that fairly easily if you'd like to lend a hand.
I don't have a Linux machine so there's always that portion that could use a hand, and more help always appreciated on the Windows front (cc: @cloud tide) specially if you're familiar with DirectX etc.
I’ll check it out
updated the Readme to clarify a few things 🙌
@bronze crow @grave rapids Looks interesting! Not sure where to start. Could I DM you?
Hi, looking to contribute to general stuff, intermediate level
Looking for user feedback and Feature requests
https://github.com/rscarson/rustyscript
First major rust project I finish, so contributions and ideas much appreciated
The crate is meant to provide a quick and simple way to integrate a runtime javacript or typescript component from within rust
I just saw this, I was working on my crate https://github.com/NiiightmareXD/windows-capture which happens to be useful for your project so I decided to open a pr and add it and then I saw you are already using it 😂
I'm free if you need anything else
Found your crate literally 2-3 days ago. Thank you for your fabulous work! You've saved me so much time ❤️ What is the best way to get in touch for help?
One place I could definitely use a hand is encoding the captured Frames into a video file. It could either be done using ffmpeg-rust (which can potentially be our solution cross-platform) or the built-in encoders on Windows.
Hi everyone, I am just starting my Rust journey with a little project of mine : https://gitlab.com/romzorus/karnaboo. The goal is to help sysadmins handle their update flows in a centralized way. This is mostly based on "apt-cacher-ng" and "ArangoDB" (with a little touch of bash scripting).
It isn't a low level program but for a beginner like myself, it puts in motion most of the important concepts (multi-threading, networking, async, dealing with a database, interaction with the operating system, reading config files) so I think it can be interesting for other beginners as well.
I made a video to present the project : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUFpegW3hGQ
I'm not a professional programmer (and non native speaker) so don't be surprised to find strange things in the code and english mistakes (feel free to point them out).
Any help/input/opinion is welcome !
Hi, Karnaboo is a tool that can help linux sysadmins handling the updates flows on their infrastructures.
If you liked the idea and want to help, you are more than welcome to do so !
Let's do it here : https://gitlab.com/romzorus/karnaboo
See you !
DM me on Discord and we can talk about it, I think using Windows built-in encoders is better for Windows because they are more performant than ffmpeg
i have a linux machine, can i dm you, i am interested

Ive been looking for someone who can help me get my software working on osx - it's maths adjacent
Looking to contribute, have experience with AWS, linux, freebsd and epoll/kqueue networking and similar low lvl things. Can also dive in performance related issues. Currently I am busy as a DevOps and my most recent experiences are very closely related to platform engineering and ci/cd automation. Can also help out there as well.
Sure, I am a newbie, so working under some senior dev would be preferable.
Yes please, feel free! Linux is a completely blank canvas at the moment and I have zero clue how to get started there.
Looking for user feedback and Feature requests
you mentioned experience with FreeBSD, kqueue, and ci/cd, which makes me think you may be interested in checking out sysinfo. There are always usually a few open issues regarding BSD support
https://github.com/GuillaumeGomez/sysinfo/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+freebsd
the ci/cd part would really only be relevant if you were interested in taking a look at NetBSD/OpenBSD too, although I know that's an entirely different beast than FreeBSD

Hello, willing to contribute related to backend related stuff.
@heady basin hey, would you like to help with a compiler backend?
@devout elm sure, would love to contribute!
There!
also working on the parsing to AST would be nice
Hi, I’m not completely new to developing, but Rust is fairly new to me. I’ve created some cli and api apps (in Rust to clarify) and I’d like to get involved with contributing to project so I can get more experience working with other people and viewing rust code.
I don’t mind to actually dig in and fix technical issues or even update documentation
Looking to contribute to backend intermediate level stuff
Hi everyone, looking to contribute to backend advanced level stuff. I have been using Rust since the 2018 edition. Can do anything from web, embedded (with a little help), async rust, web Assembly, and Cli tools.
Looking to contribute, I mainly work as an SRE, I write some Rust I consider myself beginner. I've wrote a complete rust CLI in my work before and comfortable with the language in general
Looking to contribute with new cli projects
hi, looking to contribute to web-related projects. 🙂
Hi everyone

Hello all, i am looking to contribute to databases or systems related projects
Howdy: 👋 Been working in rust for a while, experience in most branches of the language -- looking to dip my toes in the Open Source community and learn more! Mostly excited about increasing the learnability/usability of
!
Im just starting in Rust and want to learn more. Ive gotten the basics down, but because of the nature of my current project, I haven't had much hands on experience with borrowing or lifetimes. Down to contribute to anything, but projects that have a lot of interaction with memory would be preferred.
Hi all! Im beginner in Rust.. I want to contribute on some low level stuff!!! Anyone?
Hey all, I've been learning Rust through a personnel Crptographic FFI library. Looking to collborate.
Intermediate level general stuff, would love to contribute to some low level stuff where I can learn a thing or two.
hi, im interested in back-end / cloud stuff. Intermediate level
yo, looking to contribute to general stuff, beginner level if possible...

I'm a beginner too, but do you want to work with me on my learn-Rust project?
Or @ashen moss ?
Yeah what is your project?
keenly interesting.
@sharp dagger Can I take a look at your project?
I currently have no decent project ahah 😁
I try to find some peoples to do a project to help me to learn Rust in a cool way 🙂
I have some intermediate experience in Rust (and quite some experience in C/C++; systems in general), and for some reason love using Rust's iterators a lot. Feel free to ping me even if I don't fall into your target category, I would love to learn new stuff and help contribute.
Hi @civic hamlet , are you interested in working with me on my simple BASIC interpreter?
sure! ill try to do what i can!
Do you use macOS?
My editor (Zed) is good for collab, but it is only for mac ATM
nope, vscode with rust analyzer on Ubuntu on wsl2
I would just put it in a branch called old or first-try
and also better commit messages
ello, I'd like to contribute to anything of any rust level as long as it isn't doing c bindings or no-std (dm)
Hi,. I'm looking to contribute to any networking Rust related project, knowledge level in Rust is intermediate
I’m willing to contribute to anything intermediate or below, as long as it’s not FFI
I'm good with C, Python, Js and C++. Beginner to Rust.
To be honest I learned mostly from Universities resources and Chatgp. Also Leetcode challenges. I like to learn even if I'm not comfortable. I'm happy to help. 🙂
G'day looking to contribute, happy to jump on anything rust beginner/intermediate friendly, looking to get my feet wet in rust open source.
Hello
I'm looking to conctribute on systems programming projects where I can be given tasks and where I can learn a lot. Maybe a focus on developing database systems, OSs, or lower level applications that will mostly interface with the OS. You can contact me at: [email protected]. I'm still in university, but I'm really eager to learn and develop code
Thank you
hey i'm taking a career break from being an enterprise backend dev and learning rust. would love to collaborate to learn best practices in the language. happy to jump in on boring stuff like code cleanup, documentation etc but wanting to pump out some high quality rust to add to my CV eventually. PM me 🦀
NOTE: I am not actively pursuing this right now and me and the other person who were initially working on this have switched to another project so this post is moot.
I'm thinking about building a DAW in Rust with WASM, Leptos, and WGPU. Not sure how much experience you have with audiodev, graphics programming, or WASM but there will be a lot of backend and frontend alike. I'm pretty experienced at Rust at this point and would love to teach my knowledge! Not sure what will come out of it or even if I'll be able to finish it but it will definitely be a learning experience for me and if that sounds interesting, I'd love to get in touch and maybe get someone else on board. I'm still very much trying to plan and figure out a vision of what I want the experience to be like.
If anyone else is interested, feel free to ping. I would like to keep any core team small at least to start though.
@stone narwhal What do you think of the above? It's all WASM and may be either in the browser or in Tauri so no interfacing with the OS directly at all but it will involve lol-level audiodev and cross-platform yet low-level GPU access. Totally understand though if you're looking for something else though. Btw, on an unrelated note, have you ever considered looking into embedded / OSdev / microkernaling? I've kinda gotten into that stuff too to a degree though I'm looking at the above project for now.
I'd be moe than happy to
Dm
So we can talk on what you want me to do
Hi, looking for someone interested in porting a small Rust open source project used for GPU cracking vanity addresses on a blockchain project. (Need to port to another blockchain tech).
Project is a few years old and Ive taken a look at it, but have too many things on my plate. Not a Rust expert but been in SW for 25+ yrs, primarily write F#. Well versed in overall clean code. Would consider a small stipend as a bounty for the right engineer.
Would love to collaborate on some interesting open source Rust projects. Happy to work on whatever is needed. I've built several projects in Rust and consider myself a solid intermediate skill level. Check out my GitHub https://github.com/WVAviator and reach out if you're interested.
hi, would you be willing to work with somewhat beginners ?
Yes. To note, I've shelved the project I described for now since I got in touch with someone else here and realized that it was way too ambitious for what I could put in right now and there were so many moving parts right off the bat that it turned the steep learning curve into a cliff. I'm still in contact with anarchy.net but project goals there are currently undefined. I'm not sure what you'd be interested in but I'd be happy to act as a mentor and help out in some smaller projects. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts
i'm willing to make pretty much anything
What areas of comp sci are you experienced in and or interested in? Audio, graphics, embedded, etc?
i would like to learn graphics and i have tiny experience with opengl
That's actually great since I'm pretty experienced in a Rust graphics library called wgpu. I'm writing an mdBook about it.
Currently me, that other person, and someone else are looking into making a new Rust ML framework. The other two are intermediate in Rust and very beginner but fluent in C++ respectively. I don't know if you want to try joining up with us or if you want to work on something more independently that I can help out a little in and answer any questions.
Don't know how much you've done with GPU computing in OpenGL but we will be doing some of that as well.
that's great i tried making a neural network not long ago (not much success on my own) so ML sounds good and for opengl i only made the 3d cube and then never touched it again
The good ol cube. Should I DM you an invite to the private server we're using for the development?
sure
sent you a connection request
oops, i deleted it earlier this AM, your profile looked like spam to me. any previous experience / socials etc?
No worries. My previous experience (real world) is in the java land, lately delving into rust and looking to make a full transition. Let's chat in private so we don't spam this thread (maybe you can send a connection request to me).
I'm looking to contribute to a project that needs help with async/networking

Heyyy, looking for a chance to contribute somewhere. Came to rust after many years in front end / typescript jfyi
Would love to contribute, still new to rust, have been working with python for ages; mostly back-end/API stuff, some NLP stuff. if you have something let me know and I can see whether I can help you out 🙂
i would love to contribute in your project and with feedback support.
looking to contribute to machine learning/deep learning (frameworks/libraries), have some background in intelligent systems, but I can't find way to apply this background, my goal is to find some job in rust
also rust beginner here,
I'm also open for other type of projects 🙂
Hi. I just modified the original message I wrote as people like you understandable keep stumbling onto it even though it's no longer active. I've shelved that project for now to focus on another project with someone else I've met here and their own buddy, funny enough, involving ML. It's currently a total mess if I'm being honest but we're slowly making some progress. I can invite you to our own server but I warn you: it can get rather chaotic and random.
Two others have shown interest, joined the other server, and immediately ghosted both it and me for some reason. I have absolutely no idea why as I've tried reaching out to see what I could do to help make things more welcoming to them but to no avail.
If you want to work on a DAW like that, I'd love to help you with that although I am a little stretched thin right now. Working on a prototype with another person, especially one with as much actual experience as you on this subject on a prototype would teach me and bring me a lot of insight into how to make a remake full version as I anticipate that whatever I come up with initially will likely be a mess that that I will end up remaking anyways. That's my two cents though about that.
Another thing, just in case you're interested is that I've been spending some time drafting a specification for my own esoteric programming language although the eventual JIT and possible compiler will likely be C++ projects due to having to work with LLVM. Who knows though; maybe I could make it work with CXX in near-pure Rust.
Ultimately, it's your call and whatever sounds most interesting to you if you're still interested.
Rust Beginner here - looking to contribute. I prefer networking/cloud/ops projects but open to others too. Fluent in Java, dabbler in Python and Typescript, beginner in Rust.
Rust Beginner here - looking to contribute to tools , i prefer working on projects related to data, be it ML , data engineering, data analysis, databases, if your codebase has documentation or its not a huge codebase I would be able to make sense of it and contribute, While I prefer to do ML Stuff, i am not averse to anything, i know python, c++ and rust
I'm a beginner in rust, and I would love to contribute to some cli tools to improve my skills.
Thanks. I'm interested.

Hi, I'm working on a scalable automation tool (ansible-like) written in Rust. The goal is to handle hundreds of hosts in parallel. It's based on a controller/worker system with RabbitMQ in the middle. There is also an "all-in-one" version that does everything. Would love some feedback, ideas, opinions and even contributions if you feel like it !

https://github.com/db-keli/kelvin
This is my rust project, kelvin is a terminal password manager
I’m open to contributions and I open issues to help contributors
kelvin is a password manager like 1password but for the terminal. kelvin generates strong passwords from the terminal to your clipboard. generated passwords could be encrypted and saved with the domain names or what they correspond to, locally. all encrypted passwords are saved locally for later decryption by the authorized user. kelvin saves the data locally and encrypts the hidden directory with the gnu gpg.
in future kelvin is to be a terminal app with tui, daemonized so it could be started with a keybinding when user wants to get their password or add a password to the vault.

Shiva: A New Project, an Alternative to Apache Tika and Pandoc
I began the journey of the Shiva project with the first commit in March 2024, aiming to create a versatile tool written in Rust for document parsing and conversion. Over the months, it has grown significantly, expanding support for a wide range of file formats including HTML, Markdown, plain text, PDF, JSON, CSV, RTF, DOCX, XML, XLS, XLSX, ODS, and Typst. Shiva is an open-source project, and its repository can be found at https://github.com/igumnoff/shiva
The goal with Shiva is to provide an alternative to established tools like Apache Tika, written in Java, and Pandoc, developed in Haskell. While these tools have long been staples for developers working with documents, Shiva aims to offer a simple and efficient alternative that can handle the growing diversity and complexity of digital documents. The project is evolving quickly, and there is still a lot of work to do, but we are excited about the progress so far.
A huge thank you to all the contributors who helped add support for so many formats. Your efforts have been invaluable.
Feel free to check out the repository and contribute or provide feedback. The community is open to ideas and collaboration to push the boundaries of what Shiva can achieve.
I am interested. What would you say to be first contribution?

The fakeit project looks for contributors: https://github.com/PumpkinSeed/fakeit
The code is pretty simple so it is beginner friendly. Let me know if you are intersted.
Looks like it can replace fakerjs, for when I port my JS/TS applications to Rust. Though, it seems to lack serde support, do you plan to add that? 😄
Looking to contribute, comfortable with pretty much anything that isn't SUPER advanced(i.e. I wouldn't want to work on, like, a cloud platform, but would work on a complex application or, like, cargo).
I'm looking to contribute to rust backend. I'm also open to contribute in other language parts like java/kotlin/python/js/ts and frontend(React/Next, Vue/Nuxt ...).
Feel free to DM me.
Thanks.
i'd to be added to contribute in edge deployment and/or edge-cloud lteancy optimization

Hello, looking to contribute to cloud infrastructure code
hello people, I revived my open source project to develop a compact and efficient pure Rust ML library. I have 3k download per month and some thousands of stars on github; version 0.4 recently released.
I am looking for at least one person to help in this endeavour. No previous experience required, it is a good starting point for both learning ML and Rust. There is a custom-made numeric types system or the possibility of using ndarray.
This PR in particular is a good start: https://github.com/smartcorelib/smartcore/pull/246

I am kinda decent in C and Rust and I wana work on helping code that uses both languges.
Like moving C code to rust or opening a rust lib to C.
Also driver/kernel code but I am a noob in those areas and not sure how imidiatly useful I can be.
can u try taking a look at neit or xasm-rs?
I can if they want me to like I would love to help if the owner of the project needs and wants my help
i am the owner!!!!!
Oh hi ya sure I can work with you on this. I think the docs need to be updated opened an issue for that.
yeah am not the best at writting docs or making markdowns and all 😓
Like looking at this it seems like this is writing something that's fairly generic and is gona work for x86
But like maybe it also works for arm since u just use mov?
Also since its x86 its tricky because x86 a lot of ppl use nasm syntax ie
Mov dest source
works for 32 and 64 bit linux so far
Which....
i can make it work for arm and windows but ogtta get the register names
Which assembler...
nasm
Like x86 32?
x86_64 and x86_64
Okay so the target us x86 intel syntax linux
That's a fairly specific thing as opposed to "assembly" which can mean arm powrpc riscv misp"
And most dialects have the oposite convention to nasm
yeah all assembly uses diff registers and i decided to focus on linux first as that is what i use mostly
nasm is portable for windows so yk
u can change it ig if u want to its opena nd is under joay license
I think u r a bit confused about a few things but let's move to dms so we don't bother this chat more than it needs to
can we talk tmrw i gtg sleep am reallyt tired plz
Sure
I will send u a pull request with new docs
Hi, I'm thinking it'd be good to have a generic database API crate similar to how tls-api exists as a generic tls API. It'd make it easier for developers to build Rust tooling that is database-agnostic for most of its code.
It would be similar in purpose to ODBC and JDBC (minimize vendor lock-in to a particular database). Of course you wouldn't be able to switch databases at run-time, but you could build your software such that you would have a 99% common core, then a Feautres for particular database implementations.
The API could be based on an existing tool's API as a starting point.
what sort of data bases do you have in mind?
Would start with traditional relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server
So ur going to lock urself into their idioms... like u have to decide what requirements you have from the DB and that informs stuff.
If the requirements are "can do what sql does" you are not gona be able to put in non sql.
Like there has to be some sort of interface that the db must implement to be uses by ur system
Yes the intent would be to support SQL language inputs.
Okay so ur making specifically sql so going for the big 3 makes a lot of sense.
Are you gona write a proc macro for this? Like make it so we could write an sql query in rust code and have that just compile to work correctly
If you ever get to the point where u have a working lib and u wana make a nice macro front end let me know I will love to work on that
A user-facing set of helper macros is a very cool idea.
is there a channel for people who want to contribute to closed-source?
I'm interested in Py,Go,Rust,dart
so i made this project back in the day and I could use someones help with extracting all of the dwarf info from a file (it is suprisingly difficult i got most of it but objdump can still see more than my tool can) also a code review would be nice https://github.com/nevakrien/SourceViewer/

If someone want to contribute: https://github.com/ankddev/envfetch
I don't uderstand the prupose with the README .. What this tool exactly offers ?
It allows you to easily manage your environment variables (both locally and globally): create, remove, update, import from .env file, print list of all variables, get value of specific variable and add value to the end of variable (e.g. for PATH). Also it includes interactive mode with TUI that allows you to do all of this operations interactively.
I built a FastAPI profiler with a Rust core (PyO3) that keeps all metrics in-memory for minimal overhead.
The Rust side handles response time collection, percentile calculations, and endpoint stats. Next up is database query timing but I'm still figuring out the cleanest architecture.
Code is small but handles the essentials (circular buffer for time series, O(1) lookups, lazy sorting for percentiles). Looking for feedback on memory management approaches and Rust/Python API design if anyone's interested: https://github.com/al91liwo/fastapi-profiler-lite
Anyone working on similar Python performance tooling with Rust?
I am a beginner, but I am interested in anything what uses Rust and/or Python for learning purposes. 🫡
Its super simple, we catch metrics, process them in rust, and display them. Feel free to play around, might be a good sandbox if you are learning

I'm always looking for contributions on my game engine. It's different from other game engines in the sense that it's really simple to write game logic and requires very minimal setup as well as that the focus is on simplicity over rust ideology. I'm trying to show that rust is a very dynamic language and that it can be driven in any direction you wish.
I'm mainly working on the 3D pipeline, and I could use a lot of help in developing more 2D tools and improving that side of the workflow as it's not just important for games, but also for UI.

Hey so I have a dissasmbler https://github.com/nevakrien/SourceViewer made in rust which I found myself actually using over objdump and godbolt
The main benifit of it over godbolt is you can run it on large codebases that you build locally. It does not care.
Anyway it has a few small bugs I can't fix and i would like help with if anyone is intrested.
Hey can u DM me the bugs and I'll see what i can do?

Hey hey! Due to recent developements, I've been polishing up my game engine and made it a lot easier for people to contribute and for people to find an entry into game (engine) development in the first place! A lot has been done since the last time I mentioned it on this server, so I hope to find more like-minded people who are also into game development to discuss or even contribute :)
I'm very interested to hear what people have to say about the user facing API, and any feedback is appreciated. It's a very unique approach. Have a great day, and thanks for reading this!

Hi all, is anyone looking to contribute in a multi-platform graphics engine ?
maybe i can try
just DMed you
we need less, not more c++ wrappers...
totally agree, but it would be counterproductive to rewrite the engine from scratch in rust.
- i am doing this not because of "need", it's just for fun and to learn the language
that's true, but there's already alternatives. there's no reason to rewrite it also because the structure they established in c++ wouldn't make any sense in rust.
also, the commercialisation of their "open source" engine, is more than scummy. i would not support that.
what's wrong with the commercialisation of the engine ? i'm not aware of that
I’m a rust beginner looking for an active open source project to contribute to open.
Embedded systems, system programming, compilers, and operating systems interest me but I’m happy to contribute to anything well organized with a good community .
I know this doesn't help, but I would love to contribute to anything really. Preferably lower level stuff 👍 .

@turbid sparrow
Guess you were looking someone capable to help u in open source
For sure
well do need some portfolio so i can check
Will get back to you once I'm on my pc
okie
@turbid sparrow You could look at doing a rewrite of curl in rust #1417924544487751812
im quite busy with the project rn so can't really afford it
sorry bud
plus why rewrite it in rust? And not provide bindings to the curl library? (not to demotivate you, but just want to ask)
I am looking for people who are interested in over optimising random things lol #1419638295884861450
I'm accepting contributors to help in developing the computational geometry algorithms library I started for Rust. Maybe someday it could become industry standard:
https://github.com/aseverino/cgar
https://github.com/aseverino/cgar-viewer
what exactly do you need help with?
like what needs to be done?
There is a lot of issues with curl, one of them is runtime race conditions thoughout curl that could be fixed with rust.
Curl for a long time has had countless vulnerabilities in c, because c sucks at keeping you safe. This is where rust came into to fix the issues with C and curl is a one needed project to be rewritten in rust from scratch.
Also with the rust version I am building I am providing rust and c apis.
And also testing for backwards compatibility.
So it will work the same as curl hopefully.
well true, i believe tho, the more software generally progresses, the more secure it becomes by its own, even if it has written in C (of course if enough attention is present for the issues and more strict regulations are put in), and of course there is the human factor, but again imo still
if some software reaches its mature point where there are no any practical features to embed to the library any more, which i do think curl has reached it, then slowly but surely secuirity issues will be addresssed
Yes, but the security issues is in the private api not to public.
That could be an issue if they wanted to link with the private api and that could cause issues.
Then it becomes a public api issue.
Like it's unsafe as is and it is at a tipping point, one api call could equal to a cve over 7.0.
ig sort of a good point
When rust solves most of the issues.
Should i repost my contributing post here? Or nah? To see if anyone else is interested on my project
I don't think so.
okie ig
I’d suggest continuing to build and being patient. Pressuring too much can discourage others from wanting to help.
thx for the advice, i do have some contributors which i do thank them and i do respect they are basically volunteers (thats the premise of open source), tho i wish it was more streamlined experience, im worried, i get i am the leader and i take most tasks at hand, but man is it a lot of stuff even for a small (but significant) part of the project
one advice that i have for big projects is to have a clear goal in mind: if its a tool, your goal for version 0.1, is to make something with that tool
also a bit of a followup more as a question, since im quite stumped, honestly even if i try:
- Document heavily every single thing without being too extensive nor too brief, where the documentation is litterally 50% of the codebase (6.5k lines of code to put it in context, that it is around 48 english essays/articles written) plus tell contributors how to work in the project
- Provide a relatively good experience without boilerplate and friction points
Tho im not trying to brag nor i try to attract contributors with this question specifically, but I still don't get much attraction, while others do
i do have
a clear vision
i don't share it much tho, which might be the hurtle
or im too brief
good, then focus on that first
tho i do discuss it on https://discord.com/channels/273534239310479360/1415692111709208656
maybe is it not clear?
(again not trying to attract, im trying to improve from feedback)
i might've be wrong, but i think that the problem is that there's no clear indication in what part you need help for
do you have a list of what stuff has to be done in order to finish atleast a 0.1?
and if you have a goal in mind, make sure to communicate that
in order to make projects of any kind out of thin air, even if you know little to nothing about what you're doing, you have to create some sort of path
and if you want feedback, you need to get something done first, in this case, its a tool, so make a tiny project with it
test it yourself, and once you managed to make something with it, then ask for feedback
Attraction can’t be forced. People are naturally more inclined to contribute to established projects, especially when those projects align with their interests and values. I recently shared my own project here - while I haven’t gained any active contributors yet, I’ve had some good discussions and received valuable feedback. For now, I’m staying patient and continuing to build, hoping to eventually connect with others who share an interest in decentralized collaboration.
mhm
i do worry my project tho not being popular, like i am aware im competing with establihed frameworks, those being Apache Airflow & Temporal
as well as java quartz
and the architecture seems to be more powerful and easier than them (not to be arrogant)
for that true
i haven't specifically mentioned a part to help in
it was more of a long-term contribution not short-term
tho i do have issues for newcomers which they can start doing
Sorry, didn't see the message because you didn't ping me.
They have a proprietary commercial version and use the open source parts inside of that proprietary product, while having feature gates that are only available in the paid version and aren't open source, which they earn money on. I find that extremely scummy.
i don't know why i keep seeing you in random places, but cool stuff. i'd just work on the code style a bit if you want people to contribute. nice to see you advance
Hey there, My name is Bilal Khan. I started learning Rust 1 year ago. Since then, I have made a few projects that you can check here https://github.com/ibilalkayy/my_work. Before that, I was a Golang dev for more than 2 years, and I was also creating YouTube videos, but I didn't get a job, so I switched to Rust development(because a friend told me), and I liked working with Rust. Also it's been a month since I got a Junior Rust Developer job locally, which pays me $200/month.
Along the side, I am also trying to crack open source and contribute to projects like Cargo package manager itself and Extricrate(Divides the files into multiple modules using CLI). To be honest, the maintainers are really helpful, but I am unable to make the contributions as they say. Recently, the Extricrate project maintainer apologized to me for not continuing here and returning after some time, and a similar thing happened with Cargo also, where the maintainer asked me to return after making some projects. Although I made the projects and returned, but I still have a fear of rejection again.
I just wanted to know if anyone can help me continue the open source journey and not be rejected again.

Anything beginner friendly
Could be as simple as documentations
Have a background in AI and ML Engineering
This is a cool project that is IMO going unnoticed. I'm gonna try to pitch in.
Does anyone have any projects that an entry level software engineer could contribute to? Please ping me when you reply.
what are your skills?
Rust. I have specific interests in Signal processing, Networking, GPUs and Linear Algebra.
I actually have a project that involves linear algebra
I'm actually about to add a gaussian elimination function to it later today
You may want to check Burn's issues.
Same than above. Also I've just found faer which may need help. Check readme.
You might wanna check uv's issues. It's the same similar work you did on your gh with python.
Patience is key for sure. Decentralized collaboration sounds right up my alley - mind sharing more about what you're building?
thx
Hey folks! I’m looking to contribute to any Rust projects to level up my skills. If you’re working on something cool, hit me up!
Hello, I am looking to contribute to Rust projects (I am also looking for a job where I can work with Rust at least part time). I am beginner in Rust and systems engineering tho I studied electronics 10y ago and I spent the last few months learning, coding and reading extensively about system design, low level systems and Rust. Here is the cover letter I created: https://www.diksipav.com/cover-letter/.
I spent few days just understanding locks and parking_lot crate, I'd love to contribute to this one but there are no many open issues atm.
I love projects that involve concurrency and deep tech projects (databases, compilers etc) but I am also opened to more relaxed projects, anything where I can build solid Rust experience. Thank you! 💜

We don't allow soliciting paid work here due to it being too hard to moderate and keep safe. However, there are other places that do. https://reddit.com/r/rust has periodic Who's Hiring threads, the website https://RustJobs.dev/ is a job board dedicated to Rust, and LinkedIn's search category is pretty good as well.
hey thank you so much : ) also, if u know some great projects to contribute to lemme know : ) I am looking now to tokio and serde, but maybe sth newer is better : )
so i could use some help with my dissasmbler CLI on a few things
- formating output to fit diffrent screens
- fixing the horid lifetime situation currently present
- adding parallisem in places where it makes sense (contention/atomics can make things slower so its tricky)
https://github.com/nevakrien/SourceViewer/blob/main/src/walk.rs
its not a really good codebase i wrote it as 1 of my first ever projects but it is fairly useful and I am starting to use it as my main way to check optimizers do what i think they should

For people willing to contribute at a readable Rust crate on foundational ML concepts: https://github.com/smartcorelib/smartcore
Gpu or cpu?
CPU only: design for the library available at https://www.tuned.org.uk/smartcorelib
Who do you want using it? Academics? Working data analysts working with huge data?
Is it something that you are seeing packaged and given as a python Lib so academics can have a faster sklearn?
Or is the goal rust hobbies?
it is written in the slideshow at the link: it is a lightweight library targeting edge device and in-browser usage plus it is easy to read (explainable, so good for people knowing Rust willing to learn ML and people knowing ML willing to learn Rust), please read the documentation at the link
Okay got it thanks
Hi, just curious: your goal seems to be pretty similar to linfa. What are the differences/reasons for making a different crate?
(I've contributed some dimensionality reduction algorithms to linfa, if you're interested I could perhaps contribute them to smartcore as well)
design for the library available at https://www.tuned.org.uk/smartcorelib all the motivation is written there
p.s. your question it is answered literally one message above yours, please let's be more constructive and not waste people's time
- I don't think you should be so rude to people. You should be grateful they want to help.
- You should start your own thread for your project as (almost) everybody else, this thread is for an other purpose.
I think you are wrong as I guess it is in the community guidelines to read the thread before answering, otherwise we would be just repeating ourselves.
Looking to contribute to open-source Rust projects around distributed systems or infrastructure work if anyone has suggestions.
I also have a crate I'm working on that's going to be incredibly similar to linfa and also smartcore (called spindalis)! It originally started on the suggestion of one of my classmates to work on manifold learning algorithms (still to come) but I became really interested in specifically making ergonomic ways to deal with polynomial inputs
I can't say my take is the best way to deal with things as I'm still new to Rust but it's been an interesting journey so far with this project that is still very much in its early stages
Just today I got a ton of feedback from the rustfully discord (server for the rustfully yt channel) that I'll hopefully implement in the next few weeks
Looking to contribute to OS-related Rust projects (drivers, shells, window managers etc.) or something for STM32 (possibly connected to music),
I also have several small projects written in Rust, so if anyone wants to join, it would be cool.
check out redox os
Check out pop-os/cosmic
(A ton of their stuff is written in Rust, like their desktop environment, etc)
Redox is another real great one too yeah
Hi
Im late i know, i do have a library https://discord.com/channels/273534239310479360/1432017649730060348. For now its made for single-node use, later down the line im gonna integrate it with kubernetes and make it for distributed systems
-# the difficult part right now is persistence
honestly im gonna take a break from the project and focus on something else
there is just a lot of complications to deal with
that means im open to contributions (depending if i find something interesting and have the nesscarry skillset to help with)
hit me up here anyone (for portfolio, they can look https://github.com/GitBrincie212)
You can look at https://discord.com/channels/273534239310479360/1407315715232366764 if you like. It also implements a scheduling system, something like what you were working on, but of course not so extendable and quite opinionated. Maybe you could look into it, share your thoughts, I am open to improvements.
wait...
we were making the same type of product?
we could give the advice to each other for parts we struggle
(while yes we are definitely competitors, wouldn't say it would hurt mixing our strengths toggether)
I wouldn't say we are competitors. You are developing some general, extendable scheduling library. I am developing decentralized collaboration platform, what happens to include a scheduler for managing it's own tasks. It's much smaller, much more opinionated, but quite capable for my needs.
But of course we can discuss things. I have seen something about your struggle with persistence without registration, but to be honest I have no idea how to solve that. I simply used registration, it's fine for my use case.
ah i see
since our goals don't truly align, if you feel like scaling more, you can take a look once mostly finished
or even contribute to it if you feel like it
honestly, the least you can do would be some advise
regarding persistence and especially distributed systems
I actually might be able to take some queues from your Mascal project for a parser I'm working on 👌
sure go ahead
tho its not optimal
and kind of buggy
it was more of a learning project
its an implementation of a recursive-descent parser fyi
hey i'm kinda looking for someone who likes 2D games or would like to work on UI.
Also, if anyone wants to work on mathematical problems, this is a good place too in other areas.
Also, if someone wants to write a rust doc / guide that's definitely still open
For people willing to contribute to a rpi-imager kind of software in Rust: https://github.com/beagleboard/bb-imager-rs
It has both high level and low level components, and a lot of potential in documentation and testing department as well. Also anyone with a Mac or Windows background will probably be able to find a lot of bugs (since I mainly test on Linux).
BeagleBoard.org rust based utility for flashing SDCard and configuring software image options like username, password, netwroking etc. - beagleboard/bb-imager-rs
Yes i know i shouldn't post it again for the 100th time, yes i should keep my mouth shut, but hear me out. Currently im facing a struggle with the persistence system, i need some temporary help (which depending on the person in question, can evolve into a contributor) in making the persistence system (not the entirity themselves, just some parts), i have the theory, its just code really,
i also need heavily someone to bounce ideas with, the project is a bit instict-based which is biased and not good for when i want ChronoGrapher to be used in businesses. If you would like to shape the project up, the least you can do is give feedback and the most is contributing
https://discord.com/channels/273534239310479360/1432017649730060348
https://github.com/GitBrincie212/ChronoGrapher
not asking really for a lot of experience with scheduling, persistence and so on, just experience with rust
Hell9 guys i would go contribute, i have a network background.
Hey I have a rust crate a scraper and media downloader can you help me with it if you are free to contribute
Thats nice! Send me please
Can you add me as friend? So I can dm you
@kind umbra just did
Looking to join any cool OS, low level rust project, Hit me up 🙂
Hey everyone,
I've been working on CForge, a build system and project manager for C and C++ that aims to bring a more modern, streamlined experience to native development. Think of it as something like Cargo for Rust, but for C/C++ projects.
What is CForge?
CForge is a CLI tool that wraps CMake and handles the tedious parts of C/C++ project management:
- Project scaffolding -
cforge initcreates a new project with a sensible structure and a simplecforge.tomlconfig file - Dependency management - Pull in Git repos or vcpkg packages with
cforge add, and CForge handles the rest - Simple build commands -
cforge build, cforge run, cforge testdo what you'd expect - Workspaces - Manage multiple related projects together (like Cargo workspaces)
- Cross-platform - Works on Windows (MSVC), Linux (GCC), and macOS (Clang)
The goal is to reduce the friction of starting and maintaining C/C++ projects without hiding CMake entirely. You can still drop down to raw CMake when needed.
What's new in v2.2.0
This release adds a bunch of commands I've wanted for a while:
cforge watch - File watcher that auto-rebuilds when you save. Add --run to automatically run after successful builds. Great for quick iteration.
cforge bench - Google Benchmark integration. Run benchmarks with filtering and JSON/CSV output.
cforge tree - Visualize your dependency tree in the terminal with color-coded output for different dependency types.
cforge new - Scaffold files from templates. cforge new class MyClass generates the header and source file with boilerplate.
cforge doc - Generate Doxygen documentation with a single command.
cforge lock - Lock file support for reproducible builds. Commit cforge.lock to your repo and run cforge lock --verify in CI.
cforge fmt and cforge lint - Wrappers around clang-format and clang-tidy.
cforge completions - Generate shell completions for bash, zsh, fish, and PowerShell.
I also increased the default build timeout from 60s to 10 minutes, which should help on slower CI runners or large Release builds.
What's new in v2.2.1
Patch release fixing several Windows-specific issues:
- Fixed the
cforge updatecommand to actually work (it was cloning the repo but not building/installing) - Fixed file permission errors during self-update on Windows
- Fixed CMake version parsing for release candidates and alpha versions
- Fixed the
min/maxmacro conflict that was breakingcforge watchon Windows - Standardized install paths so manual installs and
cforge updateput the binary in the same place
Links
- GitHub: https://github.com/ChaseSunstrom/cforge
- Installation: Clone and run
bootstrap.ps1(Windows) orbootstrap.sh(Linux/macOS)
Would love to hear feedback, bug reports, or feature requests. Still in beta so expect some rough edges, but it's stable enough for personal projects and I've been using it daily.
You might enjoy cutting your teeth on this! https://github.com/cachebag/nmrs
Hey! I wanna contribute to some awesome rust projies
Hi
I am looking for a partner collaborator for building a deep learning framework like PyToch in Rust. Anyone who finds this enjoyable and mildly exciting pls DM me
i am a 15+years programmer, i'm good at php+linux+mysql/mongodb/redis+nginx and backend software design.i am familiar with python/.net/javascript too.
in last two year i write some 800+ page documents to descript low level principle of PHP,so i am also familiar with memory heap/ how a script compiled / how does php vm work .. and so on
i leaned rust for a few month, and i want to contribute to some useful projects.
I’m looking for contributors for a Minecraft server software written in Rust

was gonna mention it as well
Hello, I'm looking to contribute to open source rust projects
About me? I have like around 4 years of experience of working with Rust in production for startups, I'm currently taking a career break and would like to contribute to some projects and would like to continue contributing (after i get a full time role).
I particularly excel at,
- Async rust
- Listener/Channel Architectures
- Proc Macros
- SGX Hardware
- Infrastructure (Containerization, Monitoring, Observability)
HMU if you feel like i can add value, for now i'll be going through all the other projects in here and reach out if i can contribute.
Hey all! Just joined up a little while ago. Currently in a career transition and looking to move fully into Rust development where possible. I'm interested in contributing to most any project I can. I've got about 9 years of software engineering experience in a pretty wide variety of languages (Rust included, though not as much as other languages - looking to change that!) and certain architectures, so feel free to ping me with any ideas you have and I'd be happy to help out where I can.
I have recently been using burn.dev, I have ported nanoGPT to Rust with it: https://github.com/tuned-org-uk/nanogpt-rs
if I had time I would work on building supporting ecosystem tools for/with burn.dev, like sentence-transformers for example to do vectors embeddings
I'm looking for game engine / game dev contributors: https://github.com/Kek5chen/syrillian
Pumpkins been around a while
how much time?
Bio projects included?
I'm intrigued. I've got a couple other commitments, but DM me and maybe we can work something out!
oh
oh
hey! is there an Open source project I can contribute to
I am a newbie and want to start contributing in open source. So please hit me up if you need help
Hi I'm a bigginer to rust. Looking for contribute.
I'm really curious what the draw of randomly contributing to OSS is
usually either boredom or enhancing their portfolio
Which makes sense for people finding things that they’re interested in and contributing to those things but there’s a subset of people who are really just happy to make a one line contribution to a legacy project because they see contributing to OSS as a stepping stone to getting hired or as a rite of passage as a software dev
mhm
Where does contributing to OSS because I use the software and eventually go look at the code for it properly and find things that are particularly egregious (pick either the old meaning or new meaning for that, it still works lol) and don't want to see the language abused, in the hopes that the amount of people writing Rust code and the amount of people writing good Rust code starts to level out a bit
yeah its quite subjective
one the reasons i ask because i mostly only work on my own personal projects so i want to have more experience in like actual codebases from people who have more experience than i do
Looking to contribute anything great
I mean that makes sense for sure
But when it comes to that, it probably also makes sense to specify which type of projects actually interest you
Because, for example, both McBrincie and I have projects open for collaboration but it's very possible that the projects we have don't interest you at all
yeah that's fair
point
i am interested in image/color processing and, tui apps or any productivity app
yeah true
have you looked at projects your actually using? like rust related or not.
there are a few codebases which are ridiiclously tiny for what they are.
Hi
i can try, but i don't have much experience in rust
I am contributor in Robyn.
Like what?
Ariadne is like that, I personally wrote a disassembled i really like thsts like 10k lines
Sure would be awesome
is there any server? where we can discuss more about it?
Hey! Looking to contribute anything, tho im a begginer to rust
You might be interested in a tool I'm working on: https://github.com/shaankhosla/repeat
Did you say algorithm? 😏

i'll check it out!
Hey guys I can use some help on my dissasmbler TUI. I am not really that good wirh UI and I need to add some nicer way to navigate a text file.
Might end up doing parts of it myself but there is a LOT of room for adding and tweaking things
I’m looking for people that want to support/ contribute to this new project.
It’s a rust desk app for the human medical testing trial data to map against a data standard.
If you think you are interested in the project please contact me.
Developers Needed To Test ChronoGrapher
Hey fellas! As you may guessed, this isn't the typical contributor help post, rather it has to do with testing (to be fair its some form of contribution and actually a valuable at that).
ChronoGrapher is slowly but surely being materialized, its core is being finished (for now without persistence). We will require some of the help of testers (developers) looking to shape the future decissions of ChronoGrapher by simply giving their constructive feedback
We want testers (developers) ideally with experience in complex scheduling systems such as:
- Temporal
- Apache Airflow
- Candece
- Prefect
- Dagster
Bonus points if you already know either:
- BullMQ
- Sidekiq
- Celery
- Quartz
If none of these are your thing, then you should at least know either:
- tokio_schedule
- CRON
- node-cron
- APScheduler
Depending on the programming languages, you may be tasked to test specific bindings made by our team.
The job of these testers is:
- Find any detail that bothers them (and compared to other established solutions)
- Stress-test ChronoGrapher in both performance, scalability and mantainability by implementing some projects
- Provide constructive critism about their experience with ChronoGrapher, ideally by keeping a note
- (Optional) Suggest solutions that would satisfy them
- Be onboard to help test ChronoGrapher again in the future
We aren't interested in "fans" who say "Oh cool mate, interesting project", we want actual developers eager to make ChronoGrapher a better landscape than it currently is
As it goes for documentation, there will be both API docs for the structs, enums, methods... etc. As well as a guidebook that covers all general concepts around ChronoGrapher (it has code snippets for every language supported). You can expect Python, JavaScript/TypeScript and Rust SDKs. There won't be any handholding (unless absolutely needed)
Shoot a DM if you are interested and we can discuss there
hello guys, i am working on a project where you create semantic caching tool in rust with additional layers. Think GPT cache but streaming, adaptive threshold, etc. and many more.
If you're interested, DM me & we could discuss the problem statement in detail. Experienced rust dev would be great but beginner is also fine.
is there someone interested in a redis comaptible software written in rust?
DM me if you want to contribute
If anyone is interested on contributing to my project , DM me.
I’m looking for contributors for a Minecraft server software written in Rust
https://github.com/Pumpkin-MC/Pumpkin
do you guys plan on being 1:1 with normal minecraft worldgen?
I have some open “good first issues” on my NetworkManager project for Linux. Should anyone be interested https://github.com/cachebag/nmrs
Yes, it's mostly done already
I am building a note taking local first markdown app in Rust and Svelte 5 with prosemirror. If anyone is interested, dm me.
Project’s name:
Anchor Eventline
Project’s description:
Anchor Eventline is a Rust-based helper library for Solana programs built with Anchor.
It provides a structured way to emit, collect, and process program events, making on-chain events easier to index, test, and consume off-chain.
The goal is to improve developer experience around event handling in Anchor-based smart contracts by offering clean abstractions, utilities, and examples.
Project’s link:
https://github.com/fabriziopfannl/anchor-eventline
Why is help needed:
This project is in an early stage and I’m looking to grow it with community feedback and contributions.
Help is needed to:
Improve the API design and ergonomics
Add more examples and documentation
Write tests and edge-case handling
Discuss best practices for event emission and indexing in Anchor/Solana
How can people contribute:
Review the code and suggest improvements
Open issues with ideas or bugs
Submit PRs (docs, tests, refactors, features)
Discuss design decisions and use cases
Rust + Solana + Anchor knowledge is welcome, but motivated learners are also encouraged to jump in.

New Rust Tool: CCC — Cargo Cross‑Check
Hey everyone! I’ve been working on CCC, a tool to make cross-platform cargo check way easier.
What it does:
- Runs
cargo checkacross multiple targets in parallel (Windows, Linux, macOS, WASM, custom). - Aggregates errors/warnings in VS Code’s Problems view with the target clearly labeled.
- Provides a matrix view for a quick cross-platform overview.
Why it’s useful:
Normally, cargo check only works per target. CCC saves time and helps spot platform-specific issues instantly.
Looking for contributors & feedback!
- Rust tooling enthusiasts
- VS Code extension devs
- Cross-platform Rust builders
Check it out and help improve it: https://github.com/Ranrar/CCC 🦀
Let’s make cross-platform Rust smoother together!
looking to contribute to any math-focused project
same here
any idea so far? we can start a new one from scratch
what would it be ?
i also want to contribute
to a math project
im not sure, but i was thinking of kind of doing sympy in rust
lets build a Rust symbolic math engine. You type crazy stuff like (x+1)^50 or x^2*sin(x), and it not only solves it, but shows step by step reasoning, animates it, and even draws graphs. Its super fast, looks amazing, and we can put it on the web so anyone can play with it. Basically, math that’s smart, visual, and fun...
it is a very huge project though, we'd need 4-5 people and even more
it would be really hard
and i think
there are crates
that are sympy in rust
yes im aware of symbolica but there are a lot of enhancements to be made
it is not mature enough
Hola gente 👋
Repo: https://github.com/fabriziopfannl/llm-autobatch
Cualquier feedback es bienvenido, y si les sirve, una ⭐ ayuda un montón.
then make pr's there

Hi there, recently wanting to bring alive one of my old projects -> https://github.com/yourfavDev/DynaRust.git since I want to use this database for my SAAS, anyone interested in additonal details?
It is a very fast easy to cluster, secure database (redis like)
Update: filthy-rich has a Codeberg mirror which also accepts PRs for now until general shift to the platform from GitHub. I'll migrate most of my repos.
Bergers, feel free to contribute!
A message is attached to the reply for all of you to read.
As far as I’m aware, this isn't the place to share your repo links. The appropriate place would be creating a new post. This is for showing your intention to contribute so that someone looking for contributors will eventually reach out to you. It is not meant for asking "for contributors," but for showing a willingness to contribute.
The issue is that these repo links are cluttering the mega thread.
Feel free to hit me up for any open source project that I can contribute to and enchance my knowledge of (async) Rust
Hey. We're developing the syrillian game engine and currently don't have any math person contributing. So I have (had) no choice but to get frustrated myself when trying to do anything math related. Feel free to reach out if game (engine) dev interests you. Lots of linear algebra + shader math involved.
I meant i want to build a new kernel by rust from scruch to touch deep and low level and that so i start but we need teammates to continue in it
i have a functional mini kernel thingie
if you need reference
uefi-kernel on my github
Ok thanks
i know a lot of linalgebra shader math
uhh
look at uh https://github.com/speedy-lex/portal_gravity
if you need help with this stuff just ask me
@pine arrow can you send the project so i can take a look at the math
of course: https://github.com/Syrillian/syrillian
Im currently working on the fix/asset-separation branch.
where is the main math stuff here?
what's the "main math stuff"?
shader or not?
i'd say the core parts are transform.rs
mesh_skinning.wgsl
and the other post processing wgsl shaders used for SSAO (i've been struggling with that so much) and SSR (which seems pretty stable, but you tell me)
and first thing i need to ask is what are your axes
say the direction of all 3 pls
like Y up X right Z backwards
that's just helpers. not really super "core"..
-X left X right
-Y down Y up
-Z front Z back (but sometimes i mix those up)
yeah camera is looking -Z
ok
do you wanna move this into DMs or somewhere else? this seems like the wrong channel. But thank you ^^
ok
you can also make a thread here
ah good idea
I… I code

Looking for contributions and feedback on AutoAgents . Its a multi agent framework with Native local support and strong Modular design.
hey there, I’m working on a 2D top-down tactical game using Rust and Bevy (Target: Mobile). The core mechanics rely heavily on Fog of War and Line of Sight (LoS).
I’m looking for Rust developers or even an asset manager who has the passion to collaborate or contribute to this project-especially since it’s currently quite a niche to find developers in this space. If anyone wants to jump in and help out just with the logic side, that would be great too. Thanks!
helloo looking to contribute to anything that isnt gamedev or ai - dms open :3
Looking for two things in my workflow orchestration project https://github.com/GitBrincie212/ChronoGrapher/. Aiming for high performance, minimal crate size, strong ergonomics and DX and best of the market in terms of flexibility / extensibility.
We ask for the individuals to remain committed and not just abandon out of nowhere without a good reason.
Alpha Testers
Their job is to test the feel of using ChronoGrapher and report back
- Slightly experienced in Rust (at least ~5 months into Rust)
- Familar with some workflow orchestration or job scheduling tools (not being an expert, just familar)
- Strict, descriptive, constructive critiques about the project (API, documentation, ergonomics... etc.)
Contributors
There isn't only one type of contributor but a mix of categories, contributors are not restricted into one category but can be in multiple (just at least in one):
Architectural Partner
This category of contributors is mainly for helping with architecture and provisioning stuff:
- Quite experienced in Rust (at least 1.5 years)
- Dedicated to delivering high quality results
- Can reason about architecture, ergonomics, extensibility, DX and future-proofing design
Technical Writers
This category of contributors mainly writes documentation (either via the guidebook or API docs):
- Experienced in writing documentation and explaining complex topics easily
- Have read outside documentation and examined its structure, narration... etc.
Proc-Macro Gurus
This category of contributors mainly focuses on the macro layer of ChronoGrapher:
- Good experience in writing proceedual macros (attribute, function-like and derive macros)
- Know how to structure a macro for the best possible ergonomics
I've made some issues for help, more will be coming soon, do let me know if there any questions. You can also chat with the "team" (there are like 3 peps including me actively working)https://discord.com/channels/273534239310479360/1432017649730060348
May I interest you in science and/or math?
Good job, buddy!
I would like to contribute in something like that
yeaa im actually gonna start an applied physics degree on september
I have a bunch of projects open to collaboration on my Github Page called Lignum Vitae
I won't go into too much detail here because I don't want to take over this post but if you see anything interesting or have any questions, let me know!
I have some issues that you're welcome to tackle on several of the projects, but I don't have all of the future plans for the projects laid out in the issues; so again, if anything interests you send a DM and/or reach out
And a VERY brief summary of the different projects:
Spindalis - Polynomial parsing and numerical methods for bioinformatics (right now I'm trying to finish my advanced polynomial parser and I'm trying to finish the PCA implementation)
Jedvek - 1D vector that can represent and be accessed like a 2D vector that also has custom operations like mapping, inversion, transposition, multiplication etc etc
Goombay - Sequence alignment library
Goombay-rs - Sequence alignment library in Rust (that needs a lot of work done to it to gain parity to the python implementation)
Look at my previous reply BUT ALSO
speaking of physics, I've had plans on the back burner to make a physics simulation in Rust
I'm really bio focused so I wanted to make it specifically about cells but I'm open to other physics sims as well
W name ngl
Thank you thank you
It’s the national tree of the Bahamas and means tree of life 🔥
https://github.com/cachebag/nmrs
i've been working on nmrs for the better part of 6 months; it's a set of rust bindings for NetworkManager over D-Bus. the repo also includes a gui that dogfoods nmrs itself.
i'm currently stable, but expanding features vastly, the next one being OpenVPN support
i'm looking for contributors to attack this with me. all vital functionality needed for OpenVPN support has been filed into issues, which are all ready for PR's.
i would attack this myself but between working on other OSS and my day job, it's unfortunately tough to focus all attention on it.
i am aware that i've likely opened myself up to AI slop PR's-- which is honestly fine. i am still going to review every line and simply close PR's that are in no way conducive to the coebase.
the domain isn't too tough to learn, any intermediate-to-experienced rust dev will have no issues implementing some of these features/refactors. but i am open to anyone willing to jump in and learn/ask questions!
thanks, and to the mods, please let me know if i've incorrectly labeled this post or broke any rules. i made sure to read the rules ahead of time so i think this should be fine.

And @fast jetty I see you’re interested in web dev, and I actually was planning to make a website for the lab I work for
We could talk about that if you’re interested ✌️
I have the full idea of what would be good to make, it just needs to actually be implemented
Take a look at nmrs! https://www.github.com/cachebag/nmrs
I am looking to contribute to Rust projects regarding safe security issues.

We don't allow soliciting paid work here due to it being too hard to moderate and keep safe. However, there are other places that do. https://reddit.com/r/rust has periodic Who's Hiring threads, the website https://RustJobs.dev/ is a job board dedicated to Rust, and LinkedIn's search category is pretty good as well.
and idk if this is rust related
