I've had this before

if you try to run the game (normally with th155.exe and not th155r.exe), the game will tell you "a game is already running, you can't have another one"

iirc, the best way I fixed this

is not with direct x

#

but with moving the game folder to your root folder

#

so if you have the game in like
C:/Users/------/Desktop/AoCF/th155/th155.exe or something like that

you'd want to move your entire game folder near the C: drive

#

as I always said "do you know where the program files and program files (x86) folders are? put aocf there"

if that doesn't work

#

then hopefully someone can help you code wise

cause this has been a known issue for a long time
